Landing Pages - I Know I'm Being Stupid But...

Right... I know i'm being stupid by asking this so please go lightly lol

Why create landing pages to promote Clickbank products? I keep hearing they help conversions, but I can't get my head round the fact that they just add another step to the conversion process?

I mean, what if the sales page of the product seems pretty good to begin with?

Is the landing page meant to increase hype/enthusiasm before being passed to the sales page? Is it supposed to capture email leads so you can email them the link?

I just don't think I have the right mentality at the moment...

To put you in context i've earnt a very good living from SEO the past 3-4 years... so i'm not completely thick, just never tried this side of things before and looking forward to giving it a go

Any advice would be very welcome, and if anyone has an example of a good landing page template (non CB related - i'm not after your niches/work), or resource where I can buy/make one then that'd be useful

There are 2 aspects to take into consideration when you`re discussing a landing page for an affiliate product.

1. The PPC traffic. You need a landing page to be able to promote using AdWords, FB etc. and its not allowed to direct link that unless you go with cloacking, which in most cases doesnt last long.

2. The organic traffic split into 2 other aspects:
i) If you are planning to get traffic from free sources, you will need to grow your own website/landing page.
ii) Most visitors don`t acquire or take action on their first visit so you will need to brand around your domain name/slogans or whatever makes your site unique that will make your visitors remember it and search again on Google in order to take action.


And yes, an extra step lowers the conversion, usually, but sometimes you are pre-selling the product and it can, in theory, convert better. Also, it`s very important to define your objective. If your landing page objective is to capture emails and then sell the product, then here is your answer on why you need it

So for PPC traffic, essentially creating a sales page (single page I presume?) is enough to keep G etc. happy (presumably with the standard Terms and Contact links at bottom?

The plan is to generate some PPC traffic to find an approach that might work via SEO (then create a mini-site etc.)

Do you have any examples for a landing page template, or somewhere I can buy one to modify?

Firstly when you will do hard work to get clicks on your offer, why you will directly to send them to vendors page ?
Secondly If you have your own page, you can get emails for your future promotions. Hope that helps.

There are quite a few reasons why people use landing pages rather than the sales page created by he vendor, but here are the 2 most common reasons:

1. Because you can capture visitors: Rather than send the visitors to 1 product that they might not even purchase, you can set up a squeeze page to capture their emails (some people offer free content in exchange for their email) so that you can continue marketing to those same leads.
2. Because you can create a better landing page: Some vendors allow you to link directly to the payment page, which is great for when the vendor's own landing page is abysmal. If you can create a landing page that is built to convert, then this is a great option.
