[LANDING PAGE] – Customizable Apple Product LP + Basic Campaign Outline

Thought I'd drop something pretty decent that I finished off a couple of days ago. Here's my “customizable” landing page, based around the Apple brand, and designed to be used with any Apple product CPA offers (there's 700+ of them listed on Offerbuzz, some paying out $10, so you're definitely not stretched for options).

The shot's above are shots of the landing page customization features in action, it takes about 2 minutes to customize your own landing pages.

    Features include:

    • Product selection – Choose your image sets simply by setting the product that you want to promote (iPad 2, iPhone 4, iMac or Macbook Air).
    • Static image or slider – Choose whether to include an image slider (3 images) or a single image.
    • Cufón rendered text – Although the headline and sub-headline text is an image, using Cufón you can edit as though it's any other text on a webpage.
    • Social widget integration – Easy integration of the Google +1, Facebook like and Twitter tweet buttons.
    • Form inclusion – Include a form text field for a more “legit” appearance.
    • 3 Styles of buttons – Use any of the three of Apple's signature styled buttons.
    • Personalization by referrer and geo-location – Personalize the visitors experience and increase conversions by delivering a message such as “Welcome visitor from Dallas” (geo-location by city) or “Did you just come from Facebook?” (referrer).

    What's the idea behind this?

Customization. It's rare that you find landing pages being sold (at least in comparison to say WP themes), and when they are, they certainly don't have options to make them unique. At the moment it's a pay someone $150+, or DIY from scratch scene.

That concept, plus a bit of boredom = this thread :).

    Now, moving onto the campaign...

BIG ASS DISCLAIMER: I haven't run this as a campaign across any advertising medium, in fact I haven't done any CPA in the past year, and the concept of this post is more the landing page then the campaign itself (besides I'm sure a lot of you are smart enough to figure out how to monetize this), however, for those who want some kind of “push forward”, here you go.

    1) Next, set-up the landing page according to the documentation.pdf file included.

    2) What gives this landing page a real edge edge is a) it's similarity to the Apple brand and b) it's social widget integration c) the personalization options. The goal then is not just to have the page act as an an interim page between you and the offer (so that you're not direct-linking) but instead to have them share your page, and then convert them, thereby allowing it to scale through each visitor.

You also need to move beyond the idea of a “visitor” to more of an “acquaintance”. Using one traffic source primarily? Use it with the referrer personalization function to display a message like in the 3rd shot, making the visitor feel like he/she's getting a personalized greeting.

    3) Leading on from point (3), the main target demographic for this type of offer is generally under 25's. I'd go further, splitting that into 13 – 15, 16- 19, 20 – 25 as I honestly think you'll find big differences in terms of what ads work and what converts for each age set.

If you're looking at funneling paid traffic, Facebook would be a good platform to get started with, and possibly Plenty of Fish for those (20 – 25), but you definitely want to look out for display buy options, namely on self-serve networks (such as iSocket) or smaller websites that are operated by a single person purely for passion (e.g. fansites, in which case you should be able to negotiate a sweet fixed rate), and possibly CPV networks.

When it comes to paid traffic for this, you're looking for the balance of cheap and targeted. We're not targeting for something really obscure, so the market is pretty broad, but you still want to apply a degree of targeting, as I said before, you'll probably find that the ads that work for 13 – 15 don't work for 20 – 25, that females respond differently to certain ads then males etc.

If you're using a traffic source that requires a manual approval before posting your ad, be sure to throw up a white-hat page (e.g. something full of content about an Apple product and a link to apple), then, once it's approved, throw in the following code before the closing </head> tag in order to redirect your white-hat page.

    HTML:
    <script type=”text/javascript”>window.location = “http://landingpage.com”</script>
As for non-paid traffic; an entire array of options are at your disposal, so much so that I couldn't possibly get started on options.

    Final thoughts...

We're not in 2009 anymore, nor 2010 for that fact, and teens (the obvious target market for this type of idea) are generally less susceptible to “FREE” offers. I'm speaking from experience, last year I banked hard on essentially running my own age group (including rather stupid school friends) up with Facebook pages + surveys, obviously since then, they've all got a bit smarter/offer-blind (ad-blind for offers), that's why being creative with this is so imperative.

Oh, and I'll happily take any questions or suggestions for features to update this in my spare tieme, and would very much appreciate any feedback on the landing page and it's features!

Hopefully ya'll make something decent out of this &#12484;!

what do you recommend on hosting something like this? trademark issues? im still a noob and kinda of skeptical into jumping into stuff like this too early. i wont do it, just want to know for info purposes.

should the button go to the offer? or does that input box insert something into the offer? is that even possible? lol

    1) Hosting wise, I'd go for offshore if you're hesitant. Of course, covering your ass just a little will go a long way. In regards to copyright infringement, I've learnt from experience that as long as you comply with any DMCA notices that get sent to you, corps really aren't bothered about going after you.

After all, Apple has a million and one patent lawsuits on going, they're not really likely to go after a small fry.

I'd like to point out however, that I am not a legal professional, and therefor am not qualified to act as your legal counsel, and that this landing page is to be used at will.

    2) Yes, the button should link to the offer, There's a variable $button_link or $offer_url (can't remember which) which allows you to set the offer url.

    3) The input box doesn't insert something into the offer, but it's definitely possible, and is known as pre-popping. However, I've left this feature out as I haven't had time to look at a decent amount of Apple offers, i.e. I have no idea how many have pre-pop functionality, plus they could all use different parameters (data is sent to them via something called HTTP GET which means adding what's known as a parameter i.e. "email" to the end of a url, such as http://offer.url/?email=).

I may add it in the future if there's a call for it, and enough people know how to pre-pop, but for now the form is static and purely designed to increase the "legitimacy" of the offer.

Hope that helps answer your questions ;).
