Lakitu's 3 Day Challenge

What's This?

I'm becoming rather bored with my other project (Lakitu's Adsense Journey to $50 a Day) and want to test out some different ranking methods without ruining my slow and steady authority website. This doesn't mean I'm quitting my other journey, I just need something fresh and quick to play around with and experiment on; this will be it.

With that said, you're probably wondering what Lakitu's 3 Day Challenge entails. Basically, I'm going attempt to rank a small niche site with only three days of work. To achieve this, the majority of my work will be outsourced. Will this be a great success? Probably not. Will I learn something? Definitely.

Day 1: The Foundation

Keyword Research

I just finished my keyword research. They're not the best keywords, but it'll be funny if I can actually rank any of them with these fast and cheap techniques. I'm going to be using cheap services (under $10) from both BHW and Fiverr to see if they'll have any impact on ranks. Anyway, here are my keyword stats:

Crazy? Yes.

The competition on Page 1 for most of them is pretty weak and I think I can out rank them. But can I do it with cheap SEO packages? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

The Website

My domain name is an EMD for one of these keywords so that worked out nicely. Hosting I have and the website will mimic the one I'm using in my other journey thread. If you want info on building the site, read the other thread and you'll find it. I'll be using more or less the same structure on this project as that one.

The Content

I usually write articles on my own, but this time I'll be outsourcing it all. I've heard great reviews about Natasha Nixon, so I guess I'll check her out. The images will be courtesy of image sharing websites.

What's Next?

Time to start working on setting up the website so it's presentable and ready for my articles once they arrive. I also need to start scouting for some services to test out and plan out what services to use on what articles.

We're expecting great things from you. No pressure at all.
Haha I know the feeling of setting a crazy deadline. Excited to see your results.

Might just want to give it a week for all the indexing that'll need to happen. It's a good journey because it'll happen or not in 3 days. None of this 6 month journey where it peters out in week 2

Wow this should be hell of a journey of 72 hours
Anyway best of luck with that

What hosting are you using? And what tool did you use to determine the keyword competition?

Hope this is successful and you return to your journey thread. I think you should put in some manual work (eg. Tier one Web 2.0s) in addition to outsourcing in terms of backlinking. :)

Wow, this is great. After you successfully do this, maybe you should try 2 days? :P

Wow, 72 hours it is! Good luck my friend!
I'll check back for sure!
BA,

Should make for a cool 3 days Lakitu. I just want to point out that in case you didn't know, the "competition" on the keyword tool is for Adwords, not for SEO. It means there are a lot of people wanting to advertise for those keywords which is actually good. Especially for a site ranking on the first page.

Good luck with the journey.

Cheers,

Are you sure you'll be fine with the free hosting?

Good luck.

I think 3 days are up .. Any update how did it went for you ?

BA,

Haha, thanks everyone. I hope I can live up to all your expectations.

Cheap shared hosting. Adwords Keyword Planner & SEOquake. There will be manual work, just not with backlinking. Want to test out if making a niche on autopilot works or not.

Thanks. I know the difference between the two, but sometimes I forget.

Good luck.

I meant free as in I already have hosting. I'm on a shared plan. If this launches off I probably won't be okay on shared hosting for long. Until then, it's all green lighted.

Sorry, I guess I was vague with the 3 day time frame. I meant I would be putting in 3 days of work, not finishing the site in three consecutive days, which would be impossible since I outsourced the articles and no service I know of delivers articles the same day. I'm on day 2 now and will be updating this again later tonight.

Day 2: The Content

Articles

As mentioned before, I outsourced my articles to Natasha Nixon. They were supposed to arrive a day ago, but ended up being late. They ended up giving me one article with double the word count I ordered. Whether it was to make up for lateness or just generosity, I used that one for my static homepage. I then placed all five articles on my website and started to work on their on page SEO. Images and internal links were added and now they're all ready for the next step.

What's Next?

We wait. I submitted the sitemap to Google, now I have to wait for indexing. This should take a couple of days at best, but until then I'm not touching anything else. If my articles are all setup correctly, some of them should rank on their own after being indexed. I think I'll wait a week for that to happen. After indexing is done, it'll be time for the interesting part: link building.

Great to see, of course the 3 day challenge had me fooled too.

Success

Articles

I started this project last Sunday with the goal of cranking out a niche site in three days, having it up and running, and having it bring in revenue. Yesterday, I successfully made some money. But first, let's look at how long everything took from a working stand point:

Total Time:
So now the big question is, how much did I make? I made ten cents. Why do I find this exciting? Even though I didn't rank for any of the keywords I targeted yet, I managed to rank for a few long tails I didn't even plan for. My website received a whooping 3 visitors, one of which clicked on my ads. This leaves me with two things:

1. I'm already making money with minimal traffic so scaling up should work well.
2. The theme I'm using and the position of my ads are effective.

What's Next?

I'll probably start building links as I didn't even begin this process. I never started my third and final day of work, which is link building, or rather, outsourcing it.

Concluding Thoughts

Sure, my journey wasn't three consecutive days in a row, but if you look at the time I spent on it, it adds up to under half of a day's time. What's that mean? That means the average user browsing threads on the forum each day can sit down and start up their own project in less than a day (more or less, less if they invest in outsourcing). So even if you're stuck with a day job, or other things, you should be able to find the time and have your own niche site up and running within a week. Hopefully this motivates some people to start up their own niche sites. :)
