Hello,

i have a site in the education niche. Lets say my site is optimized for the long tail keyword(example):

?distance learning courses Australia?
Im ranking above the top 10 for this niche.

So now I created a new undersite on the same website optimized for the new longtail kw:
?distance learning courses USA?

2700 words with a keyword density of 2,25%.

But the words: ?distance learning courses? appear in this article 43 times with a kw of 4,57%. I mentioned it with other related long tail kw combinations, that?s why it is so frequently.
If I insert ?company name + distance learning courses USA? the following results appear at google in order:

  1. www.companyname.td/distance-learning-courses-Australia
  2. www.companyname.td
  3. www.companyname.td/distance-learning-courses-USA

So im thinking that google penalized the kw of : ?distance learning courses? with 4,57% although the site at www.companyname.td/distance-learning-courses-USA is optimized for ?distance learning courses USA? with 2,25%.
May it be correct? Should I reduce the kw density of 4,57% ?

The recommended value should be around 1 percent, repeat 43 times the same keyword it's really bad idea. Reduce it and test for the half keyword density.
If still to be this result reduce it more to 1%.

SEO is all about testing. No one can say for sure whether reducing the keyword density will improve the rankings of the ...USA keyword, so you have to reduce it and see what difference it would make.

Besides, the issue you are facing is usually caused by keyword cannibalisation - when multiple pages on your site have the same keyword in their titles in the same order. I suggest you modify the titles of those pages.
