Joe and Steve (the posters) do not have an entrepreneur mentality. They are employees who have tried to be entrepreneurs using an employee mentality and have become embittered.

For the record, an entrepreneur knows that his money comes only when a project is completed and sold. An employee knows that his money comes on a certain day of the week and work is something he has to do to keep that date rolling around.

Joe and Steve need to work for large companies where there is a distance between them and the original entrepreneurs. I doubt they would have much stomach for the behavior of the original founders of any major corporation where they might work.

I am not trying to justify abuse of hype (and, boy, is there a lot of schlock out there!), but hype is an essential part of the equation for entrepreneurs. It can be used for good or bad. If you do not get people's attention in a highly disputed marketplace, how on earth are they going buy anything off of you? An employee, of course, is not concerned about that. His money comes on Friday regardless.

There is nothing wrong with having an employee mentality. This describes most of humanity. He's just another animal. To be fair, most entrepreneurs I have met make piss-poor employees. They do far better at employing employees.

I agree. They tend to dump on everything out there, almost like a knee-jerk reaction. However some of their observations are accurate, like how to spot a scam by the overuse of common words and phrases.

Best post on the mentality of entrepreneurship that I have ever seen. I have tried to help many friends and family do what I do but it often fails precisely for the reason that you mention. The employee mentality.
