Kindle (using images inside Kindle ebook)

I read another loooooong (but old) thread about kindle and did not want to revive it.

I have read in that thread and other places that having too many images within your Kindle ebook isn't favorable because the larger the file size of your Kindle pages, the less money you *could* make in commissions on your Kindle sales of that book because of the bandwidth used to download the ebook (or something like that).

So I'm confused . Does Amazon KDP now charge bandwidth fees for downloads of your kindle book?

I'm asking because I want to create a series of how-to kindle books complete with illustrations (screenshots). We're talking LOTS of images here.

Amazon has always (afaik) charged for bandwidth. For my 18ish page short stories I'd be charged ~$.02 where the only picture is the cover. I've heard that picture heavy books don't really turn out well because you'd have to charge more than ebook buyers are willing to spend to make up for the bandwidth costs.

You could do a "rough draft" (copy paste or gibberish) of about how long your book would be and how many pictures you'd use. Then go through the process at Amazon where you put in how much you want to charge and it calculates your royalty after Amazon's cut and tells you how much they are charging for bandwidth each time you sell your book. Just don't click publish at the end.

Thanks, I guess I'll try that, but it seems to me that graphic intensive tutorial ebooks may not be a good idea on Kindle. NO use in losing money over bandwidth charges when the margins are already slim.

I guess there may be ways around it, like having link to the graphics stored on your own website or something like that, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.
