Sounds like the niches you are publishing in are not sellers for you.

You need to check the competition and buyer expectation and see if you are matching up to that.

It seems that the biggest challenge is hitting a good niche in the first place. Are there good tools for finding kindle niches, or is it all junk?
 
Few tips from my experience-

- The more you publish, the more money you will make. No two ways about it. If you've done decent KW research then there's no way you won't make money. The more you write the more Amazon will promote you (if you're in KDP select that is).

- I use the free days only on weekends and see a lot more downloads than regular weekdays

- Make an author page for your pen name. give you more credibility. Amazon allows for 3 author pages per account. Should be enough

- Make a great cover. Believe it or not that's perhaps the most crucial thing

- At the end of the book, put a link to your other books. Here's a cool trick. Also put a link to one of the most famous books in your niche there. That way when people are on that book's page there's a good chance that yours will show up as a related purchase

- Write the first draft without worrying about quality. Turn off spellcheck. You"ll be surprised how fast you will write. Of course edit it later so that there are no errors

At the moment all 3 of my books are out of free promo. I've got a new sale. Total 2 sales =)) not much, but I'm very motivated. Ordered 5 books more, I will have them in 10-15 days. I think my kw research is better this time, cross fingers!

how about for someone like me who writes poetry?
do you think poetry would be commercially as successful as lets say, writing a romance or science fiction?

unfortunately poetry won't be as popular as romance or science fiction, but it could be a profitable niche in my opinion and maybe it is easier to succeed there too. Especially if you have some great poems up in your sleeve.

Update:

Today I got new sale. Total 3 books published, each book have 1 review and every book pass the 5 days free period. I'm very excited ! Also I think something is wrong with my keyword research, I'm still learning and I think I need to improve this research a bit.
New 5 books are coming the next week, I'm ready with covers and descriptions, now I'm waiting for the writer.
 
by the way vekkata how many books do you publish when you first started? do you have writers graphic or you just did everything by yourself?

I am starter, mate ! =)) Published 3 books at once to see if Kindle worth like people are saying. I sold few books already, so I've decided to push it hard. I will try to publish at least 10 books every month. After I start to earn more from it, I will start publishing 1 book every day or every two days. But I can see with good keyword research it is awesome, even without reviews. Getting reviews drain a lot of your savings or your time. It's very hard. I'm thinking how to automate this, got few ideas already.

wow thats funtastic! ive decided to go all the way with kindle. its a revelation since i never really thought about why the hell ive wasted two years doing clickbank, adsense, ppc yet i loved writing. so maybe this time ill earn online with kindle

i think so man, ive stumbled into some article about a guy names jakonrath who published all his books on kindle and now is making millions. he is not james patterson or anne rice in level of celevrity status but he makes money as well as them
 
kindle is over-saturated, you are late buddy, better try something out, maybe ppc, cpa or else. so sorry for this but if you tried this before a year ago you will succeed you will not going to succeed now, success is something that is not achieved by doing nothing, this is all just leave the method and try something else, i maybe point you bla bla bla

just kidding, i was just trying to correct my english spelling mistakes XD
