    Hi guys,

As most of you know, my main business is selling websites.

I do, however, own a number of established sites myself and have a team who help me run them. Part of running the sites involves coming up with creative ways to monetize. As a broker, I also like to try a lot of things so I am in the best position to help advise clients. I've always liked the idea of testing Kindle so thought I'd write up my "journey" here as it will keep me focused (this is very much a side project so I'm not doing any of the work myself) beyond overseeing.

I decided to do a test run on Amazon for one of our sites. It targets the UK and is quite established. My team put the book together in a week and we launched a week ago.

Goal: no idea, this is just a test. I would be happy with 3000 sales in a month.

What we have done so far:

    - Written the book (about a week)
    - Launched on Kindle for around £1.50 (or $2.99 in the US)
    - Added a banner promoting the book on the main site in rotation with our other advertisers
    - Ran a 5 day "free" promotion period with Amazon KDP
    - Launched it paid last Thursday (30th)

    Results so far:

    - Hit top 3 in UK free charts
    - Approximately 5000 free downloads (mainly UK)
    - Around 220 sales (mainly UK)
    - Around 70 borrows (this is part of KDP where Amazon lets users "borrow" books and you get paid a fee)
    - Around 500 in UK paid top-sellers
    - #1 in a number of sub-categories
    - Around £300 ($450) in revenue in 4 days

    Next step:

    - Figure out how to get into top 100 in the UK
    - Figure out some ways to get more positive reviews
    - Launch in paperback via Createspace

I will probably update this thread a few times a week. Figured it might be of help to some members here and I don't mind sharing what works for me as this isn't even close to being my main revenue stream. I won't be disclosing my niche or site for obvious reasons, I'm afraid.

    Thanks for reading :)

What type of site did you promote it on? I assume you have a related website?

We wrote the book based on a lot of the content from the main website (took the most popular content and collated it). Then put a banner up in the rotation (which is "costing" around $20/day in lost ad revenue). So we are using the website to promote a book about the website (if that makes sense!)

I think what he means is where is the bit about you've failed over and over again, and this is your last chance to make it big with your journey, and how on your last quid, your going to get to 1 million by next Thursday. Unfortunately what you have posted is totally realistic, achievable, and you have already seen the process through to a single bankable completion. So yeah, total disappointment.

I just launched a kindle book and a second book will be published in the next few days. However, I'm having tough time promoting and getting sales. 3 free days of free promotion (one day at a time) resulted in app. 200 free download and 1 five star review.

Exciting. You won't be using false tactics such as fake reviews right? With your income I doubt you need them.
    Will jot down notes. :)

As journeys go, this one was incredibly short, but sweet. (I think?)

Is it all you did to promote the book? I'm having a hard time with promotion. Can you share any tricks?

More than $100k but yes. I did pay mid $XX,XXX for it, though, just built it up in the space of 12 months. The Kindle book added some nice profits, too!

It's a shame I never messed with Kindle that much. I have content just laying around
collecting dust in relationship to my authority sites. I should take pieces of the best
content and crank out a nice ebook for Kindle.

Looking forward to seeing this develop since I really need to perfect this and monetize
    an asset just laying around.

    Good luck with it man!

PS: One of my top authority sites is a how to type of deal so it shouldn't be hard to
    arrange the content.
