hello,
i am building my backlinks with my own keywords...lets say that my keywords are "blue widget" and "red tool"

Should I repeat these keywords for all the backlinks i build or should i use some variations?
could you provide any example???
If i use the same keywords am i going to be penalized or maybe my backlinks loose strenght??

please clarify!

what is your site? static site or blog?

in my experience, focus on 3 keywords, 1 primary keyword. keyword variations is good.

what is your site niche??

hi and thanks for replying
my website is a blog and deals with tips for windows firefox etc etc freeware stuff etc

varying the anchor text makes the links look more natural having all of your anchor text the exact same from all your links wont be the best approach.

Supposedly there is a level where if you go over it with your primary key word text in a certain span of time the links will start getting marked as spam and youll get penalized for it.

From what Ive seen good advise would appear to be:

60% Primary Keyword set
20% Secondary Keyword set
5% x 4 Other related Keyword sets

thanks for your help. I guessed something like that so i will use your advice from now on. thanks again

I would say Keyword grouping is the key here try to group keywords in three's keeping them in very tight related groups, such as
(red widgets) (widgets that are red) (best red widgets) using anchor text for links as well such as read more, learn more, click here to find out more,

Diversification in Anchor text is must use approach in current scenario. Always make variations in keywords to make process natural in eyes of Google.
