Hello,

Can we give keywords to images?? Will it be useful to improve site performance?

It is actually good practice to assign alt tags with good keywords. It is good for on site SEO and your images will also bring in some traffic as well, when people search for images on Google images or other such sites.
 
Using alt tags is one of the most important parts of On-site SEO, believe mme it helps a lot:)
 
In addition to using alt tags, it's also a good idea to structure the filepathnames to include your keywords. For example, instead of:

www.industrialballbearings.com/photos/image1.png

you should have

www.industrialballbearings.com/ballbearingphotos/precisionballbearing1.png

Google cannot see images and so cannot determine their relevence, but it can read alt text (as mentioned above), and it can read the filepath names of your site in order to determine relevance and therefore, juice.
 
Google works on the algorithms so it can not determine the names of any media. What makes google to understand is the alt tags. Alt tags are the identity of the images. Images is been indexed by the google by their alt tags only.
 
Its really a good practice to name the images over your website or blog by putting a simple alt tag in there.
 
alt tags and title tags, keyword file name - I also add images within "keyword" file rather than "images"

yes . I place they keywords in ALT of the image.
and it really help lot while i find out that the keywords i target that place in image alt really increase my keywords to the 1st page.
 
Will this alt tag tactic helpful even after google penguin update?? :scratchch
 
Oh No Sir, Google can view images since a long time. There was a big testing and skilling of google for years to understand what a object on a image is. If you bring out a image about a grapefruit and alt them apple google would judge this in the future.

The Base idea of indexing images had google after serveral problems with the indexing of Flash Contents. There was for 2 or 3 Years a open Beta with people could learn google what objects are on a image and that was a more complex algoryhtmus than recaptcha.

Google is smarter than you think. It can see objects, text and people on images. I would be realy careful what you do with ALT Tags.
