Hi everyone,

I have an Amazon review site. Does creating a category with the keyword I want to target help with ranking?

It seems like it just makes it easier for competitors to find keywords I'm targeting.

What is the purpose of it? Are you planning to keep the keyword in the link?

The purpose of adding the keyword to the category is so that it shows up in the url for example:
domain.com/best-android-smartphone/my-android-smartphone-review/

Another benefit is Wordpress makes it easy to have menus created from categories.

that's a feature, not a benefit. And just because you can doesn't mean that you should :)

domain.com/best-android-smartphone/my-android-smartphone-review/
looks like overoptimization to me, especially for an affiliate site which google hate and they'll destroy wherever they catch them...

Just categorize your products like they show up on Amazon (or use broad, one word categories if possible) and you should be fine. I'm not saying that you're still going to rank even if you do this (I've not seen an Amazon affiliate site rank in ages), but it is - theoretically - better than what you proposed
