Keyword - what makes a hard competitive keyword

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could shed some light on something for me please?

I am looking to find a medium/hard competitive keyword which if I succeed will make it worthwhile - this is a sort of experiment for me. I don't mind not ranking for a good few months/maybe a year+ and will be a long term game plan.

I am using market samurai and up to now have only purchased easy to rank keywords so am struggling what settings I should really be filtering out.

What settings would you recommend I filter when using MS?

atm I have

Local SEO traffic: 100
Local comp: 300000
Phase to broad match : 15

Does this sound worthwhile - too easy/hard?

You shouldn't be looking for big competition, you should look for profitable keyword. I think it should be at least 10,000 exact searches and have big AdWords competition. If you are not afraid of big competition you can look for even more searched keyword (100,000+ exact searches). It is also better to get a buying keyword that would convert a lot better than general keywords.

OK thank you - this might sound stupid so apologies if it is, but the keyword I will be looking to rank for will be to promote my own product we manufacture, we will be running adverts across the country etc, which is why I don't mind not ranking for a while. Does that matter or should the same rules apply regardless?

e.g. if the industry I am in is DVDs

would it be better to rank something easy such as "pirates of carribean 2" or something harder such as "cheapdvdsonline.com"

allintitle is what I keep in mind when choosing a keyword.. I try to find out how many exact competitive pages there are..

Less than 10k is easy!
