Keyword volume/competition checkers - Blackhat way

I just had this randomly thought and figured I would check to see what you guys thought.

I was wondering if anyone thinks that the free keyword rank/volume/competition tools out there exist solely for free because as people search keywords/long tail keywords etc they have in place an algorithm that saves search results in their database they meet certain criteria.

So someone searches "insert keyword here" and it meets both having low enough competition and easy enough to rank for etc. It then is saved in the tools database so now that company/person also knows about that easy to rank for keyword along with the person that researched it. Then the race is on to see who makes a website first with said keyword to rank for.

Or even worse if keyword meets criteria then it skews the stats shown to the person researching it and saves real stats in tools database.

Honestly it would be really freaking smart to make a tool like this. If you didn't care how Blackhat it is and good enough to be able to get away with it (programming tool etc not to get caught).

Because instead of just you researching keywords you now have thousand of people doing it for you..

I would go along the way and say with 99% certainty that all the free ones do it.

But it's not really because of the reasons you mention.

If I ran such a tool, I would like to see some stats every month. What niche is being the most hunted? What length are the keywords newly written about? Maybe save some powerful keywords with low difficulty for my premium users/bundle and sell/etc.
