Keyword Stuffing

Hi

I am using seo moz for my on page seo analysis, we recently added content of 5000 words to our homepage and now there is 50 instances of our main keyword on the homepage, should i be worried this will effect our ranking.

That is only 1% of the words, you are fine if you are thinking that the keywords use is too high. Most people write for keyword density between 3-8%. The thing I would be more worried about is the over all quality of your content.

Quality over quantity is the key here. A few great pieces of content is worth expotentially more than many poorly done articles.

But how do you detemine what is quality content, our content is unique, it covers the history of our products, how they work, different types of products etc.

To judge if content is quality I would consider if the content on your site is providing the information that your visitors will be seeking when they arrive to your site, via those keywords you will be ranking for.

5000 words on one page is a bit heavy from a design/users perspective, and from an SEO perspective, it could be better split this up over 5 pages and then you've got more web-estate to promote and rank for. Maybe just split it over X pages with 'NEXT' links between.

I, for one, switch off at giant/long pages - which remind me of those bloody-awful sales page/essay/treaties that were rife a couple of years ago. breaking things into chunks is more readable - and it seems a waste of all that original content to put it on one ranking page.

my company is the radiator gallery ( i cant post url's), the 5000 words is in a scroll box near the bottom of the page. It is really for seo not for the user. I also have 1000 words on most of the sub categories. I am aiming to get at least 1000 words on all categories and 300 on all product pages. Is there any issue with how the content is placed i should be aware about?

Be very careful you're not 'hiding' content. The SE's don't take kindly to 500 words being generally viewable and 5000 words being hidden away somewhere to try and increase keyword counts etc.

My main question would be why you think you need 5k text for SEO purposes. Generally, 500-900 words of content on a page is perfect. I would also concentrate on getting 500-900 words on the pages you want to rank for - not just categories etc.

Most professional SEO's will tell you (including me!) that keyword density is a thing of the past; as long as you use a keyword near the start, and maybe again somewhere and it's in the page title and a H1 header tag - then you're done with on-page. And ensure they're using modifiers - so they don't all just contain the keyword and nothing else - make 'readable' titles. Hidden content is never a good idea. This will very likely get you penalized, or Google will simply ignore it. This is not 1998, search engines can understand code much better and will easily be able to notice your intentions.

Ok thanks for your input guys. I've had this text cached on the homepage now, any ideas of what would be better to use other than a scroll bar, if i remove the scroll bar thats gonna be one long a** page

Google will hit you hard for hidden content/hidden keywords. Keep it legit, especially if the site is new.
