Keyword stuffing is bad for SEO. In other words it is harmful for your site only, and its not safe way.
If you fill your site with unwanted keywords, then it will not rank your site, it will decrease your ranking only. So avoid keyword stuffing.

You can use recommended keywords but If you doing keyword stuffing Its affect your site, May be it decrease your ranking, It will higher possibility to De-Index the site.

Wasn't it BMW that got penalised massively for this in like 2012 or something? Might be completely getting that wrong

No don't do this. Make the site for readers and not Google. You will survive long.

I don't think its wise to do keyword stuffing. It might work for now. But sooner or later google will penalize it.
