Don't think so. You want high both. Broad will be any phrase with your keyword in it.
Exact will be the amount of times your keyword actually gets searched for.

Forget about broad searches - all this would indicate is that a keyword would have lots of possibilities for expansion.

If you already been doing a lot of work, go to your stats program and get all of the keywords that you rank for and run them all through google keyword tool, use the exact option, focus on any that have searches and drop the others.

No. You should be looking at the exact match search volume when picking your keywords. It is the most accurate representation of the search volume.

As you start to rank for your main keywords more, you will eventually get traffic from more phrase search and then broader search terms.

A common misconception is using the inurl/intitle searches to gauge your competition. Looking at the results for those searches only tells you how many sites are listed in Google's index, but it doesn't tell you the level of you competition.

When looking at the numbers for those searches, the lower the numbers the better, but what you really need to look at is the strength of the sites on page 1(I only concern myself with the top 3 spots since that is where I want to be).

In the beginning i fell into the 'broad match' trap, yes i wasted money and time on those sites/domains but it was still worth it because what i learnt from it was of far greater value.

The above is an excellent bit of advice for you, a deeper analysis is required to fully understand how much work it is going to take to outrank your competition.

Look at your competitions on page seo and off page seo, see what keywords they are targeting in their backlinks and look into the quality of their links.

If you take a thorough look at your competition, you will find a lot of the time they aren't as strong as you think they may be.:p
