Hi All,

This might sound like a stupid question but I am confused about how non keyword rich anchor text links rank you for keywords? For instance, how will having my link as a URL or "click here" result in me ranking for a keyword term? How much success have you see ranking for terms using keyword rich anchor text?

I know it's basic and probably addressed somewhere but I wasn't seeing it.

Thanks!

using "click here" won't rank you for a keyword, but it keeps diversification. if ALL your backlinks are you keywords, google will know somethings up. its just used for diversifying anchor text..

If you have 10 "Click Here" links from 10 unique Pr5 sites in your niche, and your on-page SEO is good, I would be willing to wager that yes your ranks would increase very much!

However 10000 spammy blog comment 1k OBL "Click Here" links would probably not do very much, I agree.

Keyword anchors are not the only way that google knows the content of a page and its context; the content itself is a bit of a giveaway don't you think!?

Google use many factors in ranking a page for a keyword, including the content, titles and internal linking as well as the theming of the site and page. Keyword based anchors are massively less important than they used to be, and high densities will get you penalised post-penguin.

Thanks guys. Any tips on what would be considered a good ratio of keyword rich to generic/url?
