if you know what you're doing you don't need a tool, but tools speed things up considerably.
This being said, Ahrefs is probably the best tool on the market, but it's too expensive for most people, so Semrush is probably the next best option...

Along with Paid Tools, use Search Console connected to your website (I believe it is).

Semrush - Has the best tools for that, but ain't cheap, we are using them for the last 6 years.

I'd recommend using tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush. They give you a good starting point. But don't forget the manual touch!

You need both tool and manual analysis. Use tool to find profitable and low competitive keywords. Use manual analysis to check the serps and keyword intent.

Many years ago I wrote some random niche articles on my website.
Like copper vs brass.
What can I do with copper.
These hand written articles with zero optimisation fetch more traffic than those high search volume keywords which I created nice articles optimised with semantic words.
Maybe when my topical authority increases then those articles on high volume keywords could float to the surface.

Combination of both.
Use of tools like semrush and ahrefs should eventually lead you to finally do a manual analysis of the SERP.
I wonder how you could have jumped straight into manual analysis.

Combination of both needs to be done. For easy keywords, only tool check may work.
