Hey guys, I have been doing a LOT of keyword research lately, but I won't lie, sometimes I get a little confused by the metrics. For example, why does a keyword rank as a keyword competitiveness of 19 in LTP but a 33 in keywordrevealer? What would cause a difference like that, and other than those 2 easy to read numbers, what are manual metrics I should check?

I ask because I have a keyword that I want to rank, it has 5400 monthly local searches, and LTP has it as a 17 on keyword competitiveness, BUT all the top 10 sites are eCommerce websites which really kind of scare me away. Is it possible to beat best buy, amazon, etc? The picture below is another keyword I found that I feel would possibly be good, but again, I am new and still trying to learn.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks a ton guys, learning so much from this forum!

Currently it's extremely difficult to outperform top tier sites.

I'd strongly suggest looking into alternative traffic sources... Over time after you increase traffic, visitors can cross reference your site using internal sharing mechanisms to rank your site for competitive description keywords.

SEO is a long process so always plan for the future and not for something broken.

Thank you shade, so the 5400 one would be a no go for me at the moment, but what about the one in the picture, it would have to be an adsense website as its in the animal/pet niche and not an actual product. but with 27100 searches a month, over $1 cpc, and none of the top 10 sites are the big guys (except one youtube video) would this be a good keyword to start building an adsense website for? I want to take more action but I also don't want to waste months of my time. I hate being confused lol.

I have no idea how you are not banned yet, your replies are always worthless and FULL OF SHIT, not to mention you have no fucking clue of what you are saying every time and you are posting only to promote your shitty affiliate banner of CrakRevenue.

@OP: Don't listen to this guy really. So let's take it step by step. First of all, the keyword competitiveness scores are different among different programs, because each one uses a different algorithm to produce that score. And let me tell you that the algorithm is very WEAK in every program, because it takes into account only metrics, and especially Moz metrics, which are worthless, because they can be manipulated pretty easily. What you need to look at exactly is On-page SEO factors and the backlink profile of each website on the first page. So, I will try to explain shortly what to analyze for each:

    1) On-page SEO factors - analyze these elements: title, slug (URL), headers (especially H1 as it's the most important), description (for CTR rates only and how to do better than your competitors to get more clicks), keyword density of the keywords, how the keywords are weighted, internal linking used, how the website is structured (and if you can do better), etc... I really recommend you read more on On-page SEO, so you get an idea on how and what to analyze correctly for each website. Here is a great guide you should read - make sure you read all of the pages of that thread as it's loaded with gems in almost every reply from the OP.

    2) Backlink profile - analyze the links of each website ranking on the first page. Look at the PAGE links only, the one that is ranking, NOT the entire domain links. You should look closely what type of links are pointed to the page, their quantity, their quality, if there are hidden PBN-s used, how powerful the links are, how spammy they are, what anchor texts are used & their ratios, etc... Use these 3 services all together to find the backlink portfolio of each site: Ahrefs (the best), MajesticSEO and Moz (their metrics suck, but their link database is pretty large). Use a group buy if you cannot afford to get those services, as they are quite costly per month.

    3) It seems like you are new to this, so I recommend you read some keyword research tutorials here on BHW, there are plenty and very well written, so I won't repeat what others have said already. Just search for the threads, they shouldn't be hard to find. Then, I recommend you take all software scores with a big grain of salt, because there isn't an accurate software so far in the market that can analyze things properly. As you see from above, there is a lot of work going in keyword research, so it's not as easy as checking a score, which most of the times it's incorrect.

Last, I will say 2 more things: Yes, it is possible to beat best buy, Amazon and similar e-commerce sites, but you need a bigger budget and more knowledge on how to do that. And, read this thread as well, because the OP explains in-depth a lot of things, especially keyword research and competition analysis in the first 3 chapters. Good luck!

Thank you much, I will review the threads and start manually checking keywords I find rather than just trusting software. Love to hear any other input from people =) (those linked threads are awesome btw, thank you)

Yeah that dude is shady. He was trying to purposely confuse the OP so he would have no choice but to click on the "done for you" system bullshit.
