I have a question in regards to keyword research.

I am very new to this so I am getting a little overwhelmed by all the various keyword methods and tools out there

I was playing around with a few tools today - kw finder and a tool called 'keywords everywhere'

One thing that was a little confusing was the #s that each of these tools gave for keyword difficulty - for the exact same keyword that is showing a difficulty of 40 on kwfinder, it was showing a # of 5, or more specifically 0.05

Im just wondering if maybe the keywords everywhere tool isnt very good? Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this - trying to learn to do this correctly - maybe im doing something wrong with these tools?

Keywordseverywhere is a great tool to use for analyzing search volumes and I don't think many people rely on its keyword difficulty scale. The best way to calculate difficulty is to analyze the SERPS one by one, but if you must use a tool then kwfinder and keywordrevealer are probably your best choices.

From their FAQ:

The competition is a gauge of the number of advertisers that are running ads on Google adwords for this specific keyword. The number goes from 0 to 1, with lower values signifying less number of advertisers and higher values signifying more advertisers.

So, if you're looking for organic ranking difficulty you'll need other tools, and even their scores can be skewed - nothing beats manually checking - though it is a bit more work.

Try to use Adwords, Semrush, Allintitle, ILovePage1 and Your Brain.

It's kind of difficult to use Keywords Everywhere. It's not that easy to crosscheck and understand the data it's showing. I'm using keywordtool.io and I'm having a smooth run with it. I suggest that you use something which is friendlier to newbies. :)

Don't know that one but keep in mind those are their internal metrics and just because one says easy and another hard does not mean that either of them are accurate.
Then keep in mind as someone pointed out they scale they use 0 to 1 would be as 0 - 100 just multiply all scores by 100 to have a more "apples to apples ESTIMATE", e.g. 0.05 --> 5/100
It's good to start ulk analysis but you will always have to check the top 10 manually to be more certain. If there was a truly accurate automated way, that tool would cost way more than any of the current tools.
