I've noticed that keyword research for google places i kind of tricky.

I know that searches are being done, but there seems to be a huge difference between very similar keywords and the keyword generators don't necessarily include them

eg:

"pizza brooklyn"
"pizza in brooklyn"

differnt results, different amount of searches. and traffic travis, market samurai, and google keyword tool don't make a point to check these slight differences when generating keywords

any suggestions?

thats all about good sense and double optimizing your page for such variations.

I've seen searches where making a word plural changes the results (ex: "attorney" vs "attorneys"). Do proper research before hand and see what gets searched. There will always be discrepancies between MS, G's ky tool, etc. However, I have found that "phrase 1" will show more searches than "phrase 2" in both G's ky tool and MS meaning that "phrase 1" should be your primary ky. If you know what to do, optimize for all relevant keywords but if you are going to be picky stick with what is consistently showing a higher search volume across the board, regardless of whether the numbers differ as to the exact amount of searches.

Good luck.
