Keyword Research - All softwares know nothing.

I have been doing tons of keyword research, and I have tested the difficulty with many many softwares:

Ultimate Niche Finder
Market Samurai
Traffic Travis
Stealth Keyword Analyzer
SpyFu


And my conclusion after looking through 100,000 keywords....


There is no correlation to determine the easiest keywords to rank for using software.

Ok, I'll go a little into this. The difficulty is very broad, there is a correlation bewteen "payday loans" and "buy purple donkeys with fluffy ears", but when you delve deeper, often they have complete opposing difficulty levels.

SpyFu explained how they get their difficulty very thoroughly which leads me to believe they know it best. I would have to agree slightly, that when looking at the top 20 results, they do get closest most often when compared to other software, but still get it wrong a lot of the time.

I would have to say, the softwares that give a difficulty rating are the most wrong.

My conclusion is that if you want to find keywords that have low difficulty, and high searches + value, DO IT MANUALLY. Only use softwares as an AID, not a conclusion..

Just wanted to clear this up, and I hope this helps someone when doing keyword research.

I have been saying this too, although one additional tool i would put on that list is KeywordBlaze
 
No doubt Spyfu is the best but I guess you missed to test SEOcockpit.
 
Thanks GLT and Gullsinn, I'll take a look at keyword blaze, never heard of it tbh.

Same goes for SEOcockpit.

I'm going to see if there are any correlations between any 2 then any 3 softwares. I'll try keep it updated on my progress :)

You are right, there is no other tools can compare to GWP + manual check + Majestic SEO + your brain.
 
I think you're wrong about it , There is many thing to consider .
For example Market samurai has got many module and some kind of data-module .
All of them doesnt give you a brand new information about keyword , it gives you interpreted information.
You can check them also by nearly every programs' competition module .
So doing it manually is time consuming .
Of course in my opinion :) .

Why you are not using google keyword tool now its become keyword planner !!!

On MS, I found the stuff they took form majesticSEO the most useful. But there was no correlation from this data to any other data I collected. For this test I assumed no data is correct or incorrect. I did not use the SEO Competition Checker as you can't do it on mass.
 
The issue is not the tools but its you.

You expect a hammer to build a house for you. These are "tools" not all in one solutions that do all the work for you.

Can you explain a little more what YOU consider low difficulty? I know what I consider it. Interested in hearing your opinion on this.

I mostly do things manually and have had great success doing it. You just need to fine tune your method as you go.

Well not me specifically. I know quite a bit about keyword research. Some tools do claim to be the be all and end all of keyword research. All I did was conduct a personal study into the results of all the keyword tools I use to find good keywords.

I have very strict values on what an easy keyword is. In general:

=< 50k exact matches
< 2PR average top 10 results
< 4 root domains in top 20
Non local.


But as always, these are changable to how much the keyword is worth; how many searches, CPC and so on. There is no one size fits all.

I agree, those 5 tools are the basis of any good manual keyword research. They need to be used correctly in order to get the best out of it, but that those with all tools.
