I mostly see these kinds of performance on website with strong authority (i.e strong backlinks).

In fact, SEO is slow process. It takes time. Just make some good plan. Keyword strategy and competitor backlink strategy is much more important than anything else.

So yeah, you DO want to publish awesome stuff on your site.

The more backlinks your site has, the higher you’ll rank.

Your competitor may have a strong backlink profile and his site's on-page would also be well optimized.

May be your competitor having strong backlink profile and built high quality backlinks for those keywords.
Just try to analyze your competitors site and fine the strategy they are using.
Update some High quality articles for your site and build some strong backlink profile for your site.

Thanks to everyone that has taken their time to reply, so I did what ya'll suggested and analyzed their site, we both have the same domain age of 2y but he stands out more than me because he has tons of backlinks, not just anyone but high quality ones, lots of PBN links, so I've seen that I have more work to do but this time I know where to start from, thanks.

Your competitor might have some better factors than your site, check with onpage and backlinks.
