Keyword Ranking

hi everyone ,
I have started a tech niche blog just as my hobby last year . I just keep on adding content to my blog (having around 250 posts of around 1k+ words each). Right now i am getting around 400 to 500 hits daily (mostly from tier 1 countries) . Recently i have been hit by the May core update (losing many keywords gradually as seen in Semrush tool )
Still now i can see very small keywords fluctuations in the Semrush tool daily . Lastly i want to mention that , i haven't build any backlinks yet for any of my posts (please suggest me on this).
So please someone tell me that if backlinks are everything in Google rankings ? Actually i saw one Youtube video where a person mentioned that content is king . I don't know where i am making mistakes in this journey .

Are the contents written by you and completely unique or just copy pasted from somewhere else? Also how hard your site got hit? How many visitors per day are you getting now?

hey , everything written by me . Actually i don't know why i got the penalty . I can see few (Around 700) backlinks from 107 domains in Semrush . Also prior to this core update i was getting around 2k hits daily . Now i am getting around 450 hits daily .

Without seeing your website, I can't tell if there is any quality issues with you site. But as you are getting 450 hits per day which is pretty decent, I would recommend to do some guest post and see if your ranking improves or not.

thanks for your advice . Being a newbie here , i am not seeing any option to add my websites link here .

400-500V isn't bad at all. Try to invest a bit in links and guest posts.

I would wait until the dust settles before dropping any time or money on link building. You have pretty decent traffic so maybe your site is still dancing from the latest update.

yes , actually in Semrush i recently witnessed a very small variations in my daily new keywords list (after the May update).... daily i can see the numbers like almost same for 'new keywords' and 'lost keywords' ... dont knw if its wierd for me or sm1 else too..... anyways thanks for replying

No one knows what is happening at Google.

So keep doing what you are doing.

Keep adding content.

Since no one can understand the Google, this time, do some keyword research and try to target more keyword with your content. You'll start to see the results in few months.

Keyword research is an art. It takes so much time to master it. I'll answer it in short. First, search your main topic in keyword research. Then you will see many keywords as suggestion. Make a list of keywords which has low search volume which suits to your topic.

Then start writing content around it. You must be aware of on Page SEO. So keep that in mind when publishing your content. Cheers!

Optimize the content for a particular keyword that you want to target.

Avoid:
Keyword Stuffing,
Keyword Cannibalization,

Do:
Good flow with the keyword. Make it natural.

Basic keyword inserts process and makes 90%+ good optimization.

Are you targeting low competition keywords or just related keywords?

hi , i am mosty targeting the low difficulty kw from the Ahref tool . Actually i used to write detailed post for these low difficulty topics , but still can't able to beat the higher ranking high da sites (with thin content) .... after May core update , i m losing many keywords gradually... from the top rankings . Btw i haven't built any links till now.

hey hi , till now i only used to write blog posts without any linkbuilding . I just did the on page well for all the posts . Thats it . Please suggest , whether a good linkbuilding can enhance my rankings or something else needs to be done additionally .

Initially, you have to check the keyword competition, then only start SEO.

Do some social media share to get real traffic, then start doing SEO.

The SEO will definitely help for keyword ranking very much.

Social media share is a must before buying backlinks.
