Keyword ranking question

I have been reading on niche keyword sites and keyword research for a while now on BHW and other forums. Finally decided to take the plunge and started doing keyword research with MS.

I found a 3 word keyword that seems to have good traffic. While evaluating competition I had a few questions. Here is the snapshot of competition report from MS



The top 2 results for this keyword come from the brand website (US and UK websites).

My question: In such cases where the brand website ranks in top 3 results is it possible to rank the niche website for the keyword. How easy/difficult is it? BLP also seem to be quite high for the first two URLs.

It's really hard to get over brand websites, if you target the exact brand name.

If youre noob then I wouldnt advise that you compete in that niche.

Its very difficult to target the exact brand name in cases of brand websites. So i would suggest staying away from the keyword. However you can try using a different combination of that keyword, i mean like add one or two words to the keyword and hopefully that would work.

I have a 3 word keyword and the first word is the brand name. Other two are generic. For ex: Sandisk memory card.
