keyword question

So i found a keyword with 250k monthly searches and 720 exact searches a month. My question is if i am able to rank it on the first page when someone is searching for my keyword without quotes ( just type it in google) will i get a slice of the 250k traffic or i will get something from the 720 searches :?

Your traffic slice will be from the smaller number. However if you optimize yourself for the long tail keywords of that specific keyword, you'll start receiving traffic in addition to that slice.
 
well the keyword is something like " where can i ****** ***** *****" and for this i get 250K a month (not exact) do you think i can get 1000-2000 hits a month with this one :?
 
Probably quite a good niche - depending on how easy you think it is to monetize.

if I was you I would scrape all of those long tail variations that make up the 250k, then build pages gradually for all of them - you can build an authority site and you have a massive pool of long tails to target.

Wait, wait, wait...You're doing it all wrong. You didn;t find KW with 250K monthly searches, you found KW with 720 searches, which means you gotta hit the first spot on the first page to get a couple of visitors/day
 
Yeah the only figure worth looking at is exact. So if you manage to be in P1 you can expect about 200 hits...P2 about 150....P3 about 70.....after that pebbles.

That is true. BUT, depending on the type of longtails that make up that big number, it could be a good niche to be in.

I have found a couple of niches like that, where there are lots of longtail variants of the main keyword, and they are all low competition, so you can build up a lot of visitors by writing a page for each longtail.
 
For best measurement look at exact match data only. The 250k number is it broad/phrase match? if broad then it doesn't mean anything. It could be various combinations given that it is made up of so many words. If phrase then it might still be worthwhile if the long tail ones have the same context.

I suspect it is broad match and hence I think it is not that lucrative.

Still if i get 400-500 visitors i can still bang big bucks :)
 
IF you hit 1st place for the exact number expect about 500 UV per month. And lower that amount if you get some lower positions
 
You will rank only and receive second amount of numbers but the trick is to build diversified anchor texts and anchors related to your main anchor text. And having a lot of on page content will allow to rank for a variety of terms
