I've seen at least 5 threads about how Keyword planner sucks and how it doesn't have exact match option etc. In most of the data centers, the keyword tool has been officially disabled.
If some of the people here would rather read something about the new tool, instead of crying publicly, we would avoid so many threads.

1. How can I see the exact match search volume? - The search number you see is actually exact match. If you want to see the broad or phrase (no idea why you would need that), just add the keywords to your project and you can move from there.

2. But why are the exact match search volumes higher/lower than those in the old keyword tool? - Because keyword tool was showing the search volumes in the current month. Keyword planner calculates the average per year, so that's why the numbers are different.

3. Well, but it doesn't show the local search volume! - It does show ONLY local search volume of the country you selected in targeting. If you want to see global search statistics, then change targeting to all countries.

4. But but... it doesn't show search trends! - Yeh it does, just hover your mouse over that small graph icon right of the keyword. These new search trends are actually far more better, cause you can see exact names of the months.

5. But... well... my tools do not work anymore! - Yeh, so buy them and update them, instead of downloading cracked versions and they will work fine.

Hope that this thread will help to some of you, who are too lazy to read and research more on new tools.

Also: The CPC estimate is far more precise and the search volumes as well. Of course, it's still an estimate and you always have to consider that, but it's still far more precise than the old KW tool.

This should be sticky. Keyword planner is much more convenient than keyword tool especially how they show trends now.

Posted this in a different thread, and I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but while my adblock extension in Google was activated I could not load the keyword planner. With it disabled it loaded fine.

Then don't use Adblock, simple solution to that.
You are an IMer, people live here from the ads and although they are really really annoying (ads and people sometimes too), you should show a bit of compassion and suffer through them. But maybe that's just me.

Thank you for this. Very informative and made me understand what's the distinction between these two tools.

Am I right to add [keyword] if i want to search exact matches, whereas you said it already in exact by default?

Yes, it indeed is in exact match as default.

Here:

With Keyword Tool, we showed you broad match statistics by default with the ability to get data for other match types, like phrase and exact match. But with Keyword Planner, you'll get historical statistics only for exact match. To decide what match type to use, add the keyword idea to your plan and review the traffic estimates for each match type.

OP, I have read the numerous threads on this subject over this past while,
and for what its worth, this thread is by far the most imformative (as an Original Post)
and although there is good discussion going on in some of those other threads,
(and no offense to those thread starters)
I vote this one to be the MAIN / OFFICIAL thread, and perhaps the Mods will merge
all these threads into one, and if that cannot be practical in this topic,
then perhaps we should canvas/lobby discussion from those threads to make this one the best.

In that way, we will get a balanced and fully informed view of the new keyword planner,
and the ramifications on our SEO and keywords work.

Cheers

Yeh, there is the option to select exact/phrase/broad match, but I believe it only adds the keywords in that specific match to your keyword ideas. It won't show them in that match right away in the keyword planner.

Yeah what you said is all true. .but you skipped the main point on the real reason to bitch.

The results you get now, are much more targeted and lower volume. They are more narrow and designed for long tail results which helps adwords buyers a lot, but for people looking for high volume SERP results. . its gone. The tool is extremely ineffective to what i valued the most out it. Sad day. Its only real use it to give it the kw i have already discovered and then test the search volume, no use to find new good ones.

Exactly keyword planner is best for beginners and very easy to use. The is the update of Google adword to Google planner. The biggest advantage of Google is that it introduce the new tools with the change of time and work needs.

Am jsut confused with this tool. Don't see any numbers for my keywords (only some bar from 1 to 10), and everything is weekly not monthly. Yes, am a noob. Any help?

Thank you for alleviating my nerves I am just learning SEO now and I was very sad to see my keyword tool go.

Thank you. Until now I wont be confused with this new tool. However I dont understand why google replace the old one, cause it did its job well.

This is the internet. "Change" is something that happens on the daily. As IM'ers we should already be accustomed to this.

Simple and straight to the point. Bookmarked and saved! Thank you for the tips!

Yep good tips for sure. I will be using this this weekend!

Nargil, you are absolutely right and the first thing I did after learning that is was officially discontinued was to go find as much info as I can about using the keyword planner and read and bookmarked like crazy so I can get on top of it ASAP.

Don't drop the ball ladies and gentlemen, stop whining about how much it sucks..WE ALL AGREE-->> IT SUCKS, but its time to get up and tame a new beast to till your farms and get you that bounty.

Think of it this way, how many noobs and lazy people are going to sit around and complain while waiting for someone to dumb it down for them..hmmm..99%?

Now how much progress can you make when the competition will be in the slow lane waiting for a WSO to explain how the keyword planner can make them a millionaire overnight with no effort or skill whatsoever?

Get on top of this people...its a chance to break free from the crowd.
