Keyword Massive Drop (Your Thoughts) Help!

Hi Guys,

I need abit of help! Today I have seen a keyword drop from the number one position to 29! I now rank for a completely different page for this keyword.

I don't think this is a dance? I haven't seen something as drastic as this before!

The page which dropped is still ranking number 1 for a variety of other terms and I haven't seen a mass wide drop as per yet.

What is your thoughts? Seems really wierd! Why is google dropping this page for one keyword and not the others?

i got some dance on new sites 9 to 150
then they come back to top 10
just keep backlinking high quality backlinks
and adding content

Thanks for the reply! You definitely don't think I have been hit by the dreaded google penalty? :-p

It is very possible for Google to penalize you just for one keyword, because you might have been over optimizing for it. However, I cannot tell you if the current changes are a dance or a penalty. If it comes out in a week or two, you can assume that it was the dance. If it takes longer, it will start to look more and more like a penalty.
 
Google panda was recently started again but I don't think its from that. Yesterday one of my sites dropped from #3 to #33 and today its again #3 so Dance most probably.

It's dancing by the sounds of things...but if it's not back after 9 day's I'd guess it was a penalty. Mine are forever going from 2 - 149 e.t.c.

The keyword is repeated multiple times in text on that page. Maybe I should change that?

What could be the problem? Looks like it is only this page?

Is this the new panda?

If its more than 3%, try knocking it down a little bit. Also, try to vary your anchor text a little more when you do off site SEO. Don't go overboard and do the other extreme though. Too much anchor text variation will also create unnatural link graphs for your site.

It sucks when you drop because you are just guessing in the dark. For about a month, don't make any drastic changes. If your site doesn't come back, then you can slowly experiment with some important changes.
 
Yeah if your off site links are only with one anchor that is not good. Vary them with some you can see as suggestions in adwords keyword tool, sometimes something like "click here" or for the blog comments just some names.
 
Okay thanks guys! I'm going to rewrite the text today (as I think the word is repeated too much) and then build some more links! Will see what happens!
 
Its back again now at number 1! Looks like a dance! I checked it on all my browsers and it was at 29! Now moved to 1 after a few hours! Crazy stuff!
