Keyword in Anchor Text Question

Hey all,

Would be awesome if you guys could clarify this for me:

Supposed I'm targeting a keyword - "green trees"

When building backlinks to my site, what if I put something like "green trees are big" in the anchor text, instead of just "green trees", will it count the same as "green trees"?

Similarly, what if I put "green trees red trees" in my backlink anchor text, when I'm also targeting "red trees", will Google consider it as backlink for "green trees" or "red trees" or both? In this case, will the value between the two be somehow split?

Imagine if you build 10.000 links with only the anchor text "green trees". Do you think that looks natural to mr. G?

No - so it's very important that you vary your anchor text and it's also a good idea to make a regular www... anchor text link to your main url.

Google seems to look at the anchor text as one unit. Putting two keywords in one anchor text will not be as effective. Adding extra words does water it down as well. However....

As pointed out by the post having all your links with the exact same anchor text is certain to look odd so some variations is a good idea.

If you are targeting multiple related keywords the best way I have found is to have a page for each (or depending on how many and how close they are you can double up on them) and do 80/20 on your linkbuilding. 80% of your links go to the optimized keyword page and 20% go to your main page. What you end up with is the links to the pages have that very specific anchor text pointing to it and your main page has a variety of different anchor texts pointing to it.

If you think about it this seems like normal behavior. Who is going to link to a red widget page using green widget as the anchor text? You do however get a range of anchor texts to the main page which again makes sense since the site is about all different colored widgets.

No Man, if you have selected one key word for seo purpose then there is no need to more additions. Only work on that key word and do not add any thing from your own side. Try to promote only specific one unless you choose another keyword.

I didn't ask if it looks natural to Google, you didn't answer my question, thanks for trying though.

Are you sure about this? From competitors links that I have analyzed, some put 3 keywords and it seems to be very effective (they're ranking top in Google).

PS: This is a good example of why SEO is not easy to learn, especially for beginners, instead of answering concrete questions and giving responses based on statistical evidence there are only opinions, theories, and the fear of big G seeing it as unnatural. No offense to anyone that responded, I know getting facts about SEO is not easy, even simple things like that.
