Ideally from an SEO standpoint, the keyword phrase should match the domain name, but sometimes that doesn't work out. Adding words like the, my, your, or other articles and pronouns to the domain name can be a way of finding one that is not already taken without getting dinged too much from an optimization standpoint. Make sure the rest of the page titles on the site match the Google Wonder Wheel for the keyword phrase (on the left of the Google search page, under More) and write at least 200 words of relevant unique content. Add some videos, and a relevant RSS feed. Your pages will then look good to Google. Then get some good inbound links and you should do OK in the SERPs.
There are, of course, more automated ways of doing the above, but sometimes it is good to start out manually so you get the hang of what to do. A well optimized, Wonder Wheel site can rank quite high (like on page one) for non-competitive long tail keywords. If you build a lot of these sites, you can make a relatively stable income feeding off the edges of the search engines. You don't attract much attention in these twilit realms, and the stability of the income is what is attractive.
