You would get different traffic not necessarily what you were originally targeting.

Ok I hope this helps.
If I made a site about:
Cheetah Mounts APTMM2B Flat Screen TV Wall Mount Bracket for 32-65-Inch Plasma LED LCD TV
and that was my keyword would I get searches from:
Cheetah Mounts APTMM2B Flat Screen
if i ranked for the really long keyword and the shorter keyword was easy to rank for too.

Yes you could rank for all variations of your long keyword. When pushing a blog post to our network I always end it with sales, discounts, and pricing specials (Or something similar). Many times we get ranked for widget sales, widget discounts, widget specials, widget special discounts and etc.

So saying that it would be stupid to just go for the shorter keyword?
