Hey , here is a good question !
let's say you have a website that is a directory of mechanics in manchester !
you want to rank for keyword "Audi Motor Mechanic in Manchester" .

How would you approach it .
Would you :
1- Mention it in the website a lot of times
2- Send some Backlincks with anchor "Audi Motor Mechanic in Manchester"
3 - Write A lot of Articles About it

Above three ways can help popularize your brand, but nothing can be done at many times.
Mentioning the brand name in the article with branded anchored links is a good way to help you.
But anything done many times, can cause disturbance to your ranking.

Three ways are best for your site. Those will help you to popularize to the audience.
try to implement this in a natural way.

All three are outdated methods. Google will see them like this:
1. Keyword stuffing
2. Over-optimization of anchor text
3. Keyword cannibalization

Forget about SEO and prepare a landing page that is perfect for your customers. Now, optimize entities related to your keywords which will be picked by NLP algo of Google. Then, send backlinks with your brand name as anchor text. You can write articles but you shouldn't post all of them for the same keyword.

Just write about a article or page in natural way and try to optimize.

All of the above, but not in such a way,
You surely should mention the keyword in the website pages & posts, but you should avoid stuffing them,
For the anchors, exact match anchors would help but with 20% of the link profile at most, you should include naked, brand, long tails at 1st then go for exact and partial matches,
For the third point, writing useful articles about it would improve the website topical authority and would let it rank for all of the similar keywords, but what you should avoid is spamming the website with a ton of useless posts with 0 traffic and thin content,
Moderation is the key, spamming is not what you should aim for, at least not for such a way or a website

A moderate combination of the three will actually be most effective (and moderate is the key here). Here's how to make the best use of each choice you've presented:
- Keyword Repetition: Select a handful of keywords related to the topic and keep it at a density below 6%. This way, you will be able to make sure that the insertion feels natural to read, but effective at helping you climb ranks.
- Backlinks Insertion: It's good that you've specified the location (which will also ddetermine your range of audience). Be sure to put the backlinks in spots that will be extremely visible to readers to ensure efficiency, i.e: on the first terminology mention in an explanatory paragraph, giving it a separate line rather than putting it in with other backlinks, etc.
- Articles: Do this in moderation, otherwise your website will not receive the traffic it deserves. Instead of focusing on one set of keywords, try exploring different angles you can approach with a more broad and flexible set of keywords.

Hope this helps!

Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. SEO best practices dictate that anchor text be relevant to the page you're linking to, rather than generic text. ... The keywords in anchor text are one of the many signals search engines use to determine the topic of a web page.
