From what i can tell and have read through forums and relevant sites it appears being penalised for overoptimisation of keywords is very easy to achieve...

I have read 1% to 2% keyword density is around about where you want it (baring in mind everything on the page including all links widget etc add to the density if they contain keywords).

am i thinking on the right lines here?

your opinions are very much welcomed!!

Also, would be great if you can support your opinions with instances where you have seen yourself/someone else penalised for using certain % ratios.

Cheers :)

There is no need for threads like this. People have put together amazing guides on bhw already. You can read those if you really want to know about keyword density and other on/off page factors.

There absolutely is a need for threads like this.

Threads regarding keyword density have been consumed by myself but things change on a daily basis in seo and i wanted people opinion on keyword density.

Irrespective of the above, what are you opinions on keyword density?

1% or 2% is Good.

You can also use LSI Keywords.

My opinion? Get top 10 ranking for the keyword you are going for and analyze their keyword density.

Agreed specially when there is actually no info in this thread.

Anyone wanna know about keyword density or write about should just say go to @phpbuilt

It's the Bible of on oage optimization

At OP, there are many details missing here. It depends on the number of words you are targetting, where u put the kw's and how do you link to them

Anyway, I would say ur exact kw should never exceed 0.6 to 0.9 if it's 3 words long

Again, I am just rewriting what is already shared so just check his idiots-proof thread and it will be more than enough

All threads i had read were between the 1 - 2% on average thus point out in the thread...

I have just read which although old seems very much relevant to today; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7sLQdt-CDoEdk54Ry1DOTh3TTg/view

Cheers for sharing your opinion though!

Phpbuilt's thread is still relevant today, each and every word, that's the reason I pointed you to his authority guide in your other thread OP. I assume that's what you were wondering. I can tell you this from experience. So, stop hunting around for the "latest" information and use the suggestions given in that thread. As KHer0 said, KD is just part of the equation, it goes hand in hand with other on-page factors, internal links and backlinks, anchors, etc... you need a certain combination (balance) of all of these to rank - again perfectly explained in phpbuilt's thread.

That is exactly what i was wondering as many times something written one year does not work the next.

However, from what it appears he covers all bases which are still relevant today.

It also helps that many people vouch for his work based on their real life experiences utilising such.

Cheers for the valued input again!

What if it's 4 words long or more than that?

Did you read the thread we mentioned many times. When you calculate word density, if a 3 word keyword mentions ones in a 300 word word article, then its density is 1%. Anyway, mention your keyword 2 - 3 times maximum for 1000 words and this should be enough. Use a lot of variations of the same keyword and this will be even better.
