Keyword density discussion.

I go for 1.4%, 1.1%, .8%, and use 4 word phrases once. Thoughts and opinions?

It's logical they would as sophisticated as they are. A page with similar density that is in a good range would normally be structured better. One would assume. Especially if it's not stuffed. I would imagine Google might think "Well, they know a little SEO, their more trustworthy compared to someone who is new & stuffing."

My own opinion on the matter is to just use all your keywords in context and to use pictures that are renamed to a keyword, without neglecting the "alt" tag.

It's not about keyword density anymore. It's about actually writing about the topic of the keyword... such that you mention some of the other words or phrases that Google expects when people talk about that kind of keyword.

For example:

If I take an article about a random celebrity and start putting the keyword "coffee maker" in it, then I've failed at on-page optimization because there is no connection between the word "coffee maker" and the rest of the article. I could adjust the density up and down and play with the positioning, but it wouldn't matter.

If I'm actually talking about coffee makers, though, I don't have to worry about keyword density. (Some say that having too much of the keyword will lead to a stuffing penalty, and they might be right. Solution: stop worrying about keyword density.)

Basically, keyword density doesn't matter.

Who knows. I guess in time I'm just going to have to start experimenting myself. Do some studies. I hear too many things from too many people. I'm going to stick with what makes sense for now. Can only improve.

I always stay between 1% and 2% with occasional LSI keywords thrown here and there.

Maximum it should be 2%, But you have to make sure that everything looks good and natural, so, 1.5 to 1.8 will be better for every article.

I never understood this subject. I like to write content for myself, most of the time. I usually write 1,000+ words. I don't pay attention to how often a keyword comes up. It always seemed to me to write naturally, and use the keywords as needed. What else am I supposed to do? Stat using synonyms if my density is too high?

It depends on niche and page. If it's a product page for a coffee maker then you'll obviously have a higher density then a T1 blog talking about coffee. There is no one answer anymore... test and see what works for your needs.

I wouldn't bother about keyword density, just focus upon writing naturally and build relevant backlinks to your niche.

Usually up to 1.5%, but it's not a rule.

All those people saying keyword density doesn't matter have no idea what they are talking about.
If it doesn't matter, then please rank a website with 10% keyword density or higher and let's see the results!

@OP: It does matter A LOT! Keyword density, if done right, can get you some positions up in Google without lifting a finger, but if done wrong, then you trigger the over-optimization filter on your website and you are screwed!
