I am quite new to SEO but have learnt a lot here over the past 2-3 weeks. I have built a site and have created some 600+ word articles with keywords inside articles, H1 and everything else that goes along with on page. Then I got added some social signals and made up some web2.0 back linking to these articles. Now I have serpbook watching the keywords and articles and root domain. So I check serpbook for any movement as had no data in there until yesterday one of my keywords come in at position 163 and I was buzzing thinking in a few days it would go higher but after checking today it back to not showing a position in serpbook :(

So the question is how does the google dance go? Is it normal for a keyword to get to page 16 and then disappear the next day? I have seen a few posts on here that say big movements is a good sign is this true?

Hopefully I can sit back and watch this google waltz without worrying lol

Yes, the "google dance" is normal. One day you'll be on page 4 and then next day on page 23. It's about consistency with SEO. If you keep building links to your tier 1's, keep your tier 1's strong, keep updating your content with good LSI, you'll rank.

No point in looking at it in the short term. Just build content and links and look for it to settle down and rank higher as trust builds. Sometimes it can take months.

Ok cool just a quick one i noticed my homepage was ranking for the keyword and not my 600+ article page article related to that keyword is this normal.

Google dance is perfectly normal and triggered due to presence of new link built backlinks to your site, just continue with quality links and it will stabilize..

keyword dancing/google dancing is normaly.Keep enjoy blogging, really update and link building

Of course, you need to sit back and wait until Google stop dancing. Recently i have had this type of experience with my client site. Now his keywords are at the 2nd page from 16th and N/A.

What time scale are you waiting? Over the last few months, one site danced for about 5/6 weeks, but my other one is still dancing at 4 months. Maybe time to add some new on-page.

It's hard to tell exact time frame. In my experience it really depends on age and backlinks. However, if your site is new, then this might be a Google Dance. Rankings will fluctuate for a few months until Google trusts your site. Just remember, your site will be changing everyday or every week as you try to tweak your content, create backlinks and so forth. At this time, big G is not sure where to position the site.

Ha, am experience this with my newest website. It is less than 2 months old. It is dancing heavily. Today it will on 50th position, tomorrow not in the top 200.

I have not build any link yet. Just adding content and social signals.
So wait. Sometimes, it takes 4 months before I see stable ranking.

Google dance is the one kind of fluctuations in ranking position for the keyword, it happens often in the Google. According to me, it might not affect the SERP because sometimes keyword gets their position back.

Any time the dance starts I begin doing some commenting work

If we knew, we'd be billionaires and would never tell ;)
