Keyword Compition

There is one keyword, that drives close to 40k in Google search traffic. Of that traffic one website monopolized approx 30k of that traffic. Other competitors are only taking a small chuck 2-4k, but still ranking between 1-9 on serp. Realistically, how long would it take to rank above 4k in traffic? After a backlink analysis, total over time in BL, they had close to 1mil, over a period of 10 years, now they currently stand at 1k, but BL look like they were generated with GSA and are tier 3.

My site as it stands have 16 BL, and not hitting any keywords. Stressed out any advice would help.

this is a weird question to ask because you can't "rank above traffic", you can only rank above positions / spots in the SERPs. Weird question, man....

You could get more than 4k traffic within minutes, or within years, it comes down to any, or a combination of these:

- the niche you're in and the keywords you target (if you're in tough niches like health, forex, scholarships, etc it might take you years to rank depending on what you do and how much money you use for SEO-ing your site)

- the effort you put in

- the keywords you target (if you aim to rank for tough keywords you need to throw a lot of money at SEO-ing your site in order to rank for those high volume buyer keywords that everyone and their grandma chases after)

- the SEO of your site and god-knows what else...

And I'm pretty sure you're not going to outrank a page that has 1 million backlinks with all of your 16 of them. This hardly ever happens when your site's authority, content, topical authority and SEO is not better than your competition (although I obviously don't know how your site fares against your competition's, I'm only speaking in general)

you might either be sandboxed, penalized by google (especially if you're using an expired domain that has been penalized before), or you're in a tough niche... or your site's SEO might not be good enough, it can honestly be any of these...

Just a few questions if you don't mind:

1a. for how long has your website been alive?
1b. how many content pages does it have?
1c. how many pages are indexed?
1d. is the content 100% AI and unedited, AI and edited, or 100 manually written?

2. is this a fresh domain, or an expired one?

3. what niche / industry you're in? (you don't have to give your niche away, just a broader market like health, finance, education, travel, self improvement, technology, pets, etc. will do)

4. is your site's SEO properly done? (no technical errors, no broken links, no 404 pages, good speed and mobile optimization, good topical authority, good domain authority... although, domain authority might not be that important, but it's still something to at least check)

With a keyword that competitive, it's an uphill battle. Consider improving on-page SEO, content quality, and user experience. It might take some time, but steady progress pays off in the long run.
