Hi BHW,

I'm wanting some participants to help me out with some keyword competition comparisons. There are so many keyword competitions analyzers available out there, some good, some bad. People say nothing can compare to manual keyword research. However, when you have some 45k keywords to research, manual simply might not cut it. So I'm proposing a keyword competition analyzer test. Here's how it would work

1) List of 5 keywords goes out to everyone participating (people with software/tools to test competition). These have been selected manually for very easy, easy, moderate, hard, very hard.
2) Everyone checks them manually, and rates them. Scale 1/10 or something similar
3) Everyone runs their software and records/screenshots the results.
4) Everything gets compiled and we can compare and see what the average result is for manual and how far each software solution deviates from that.

Obviously we would need some experienced people from here on BHW for this. Wondering if we have those people here who would be interested in helping out with this? If so, post below and let us know what you bring to the table.

What I'm bringing:

manual competition experience: poor
software/services: UNF, SE Cockpit

Please help out guys and let's see what works best :-)

So... here's some of the software we should test. Feel free to add to the list.

- TermExplorer
- KeywordRevealer
- MarketSamurai
- UNF
- Longtail Pro
- Traffic Travis
- SEMRush

Anything else? We can narrow it down later if necessary, but for now lets brainstorm some keyword tools to run thru the BHW fire.

45K keywords, all to be manually evaluated? You'll need tons of members to accomplish that, and when there's no incentive, you'll get very few or zero volunteers.

Maybe I wasn't clear... What I was saying is I have a ton of keywords to analyze. I want to know what's best before I run them all.

So I propose a test of 5 keywords, manually rated by experienced members and then compared against automated ones. That was what I was trying to say.

I dont think many would bother taking part. Software programs do obviously do the job better most of the times, so long as all tools ive a certain keyword a comparable rating, you should be good.

I'm not going to say that won't work because you could get lucky. But the problem is you'd really need to test a few hundred keywords to get reliable results to compare. Choosing 5 keywords would be like analyzing a competitors backlinks and choosing 5 backlinks and deciding that those backlinks are the ones that made their website rank high ;)

This is true. It's unfortunate because I think if people here on BHW pooled their resources for things like this, we could seriously do some damage out there. Imagine you find one of those keyword competition analyzers literally pinpoints keywords with accuracy... you would be on the fast track to high traffic.

On a side note, what keyword tool do you prefer?

Cheers

XH

nice information regarding keyword comparison.

This summarizes succinctly what is wrong with BHW.
