Can duplicating your own content help? I'm looking at this website that has a list of links at the bottom of their page with the name of different cities, and every link I click on has the exact same content but with the cities name switched. When I google each city with their keyword they are on the 1st page for every keyword.

This isn't a good long term option especially considering how cheap content can be.

It looks like the main content that is being duplicated hasn't changed for over 3 years. I'm surprised to see them ranking on the first page of google with so many different keywords.

Duplicated content not only is not good, but it is bad and it can cause you a penalty. There might be more than what you are seeing from this site that is making it rank so good. Probably a lot of automatically generated dynamic content.

I'm guessing they must know someone at Google because even their backlinks don't compare to their competitors. It seems like everything i've learned about seo, these guys are breaking the rules and have been getting results for awhile now. hmm.
