what tool do you use for checking keywords? i have googled it and found some keyword checkers do they really work..can any one specify me with any particular tool which is good for the purpose..
if you do it manually (checking keywords) can you offer me any tips to speed up the process

I don't understand what you really looking for. You need keyword research tool to find profitable keyword or you need to find ranking of your site for the given keyword.
If you are looking for good keyword research tool i advice you to go for google keyword planner its a free tool. If you are looking for rank checker then go for ezeeranktracker.com. The seller is here in BHW ID - "Innosoft" speak with him to know more about the tool.

There are lots of tool in this forum !

serpbook, rankaware, seo combine etc ... or make a search for SERP checker free tool and you will get plenty

You need to remember that all trackers will provide different results, as will Google depending on your browser, history, location, Google+ friends etc etc.

However, I like to use SerpBook as a general guide. There's a trial code on the marketplace thread I think.
