I'm using tweepi atm to manage my main account and don't want to take any uneccessary risks as the hope is to build this account to over 100k targeted followers.

Account is only one month old and atm I am following 500/day.

And am wondering if it would it be risky to unfollow 500 per day as well?

Or if doing something like follow 500/day + unfollow 200/day and then every saturday pick up the slack by mass unfollowing the additional 2100 and only follow like 100 that day is a better idea?

Social proof with twitter is huge. So constantly keeping a low x,xxx/xx,xxx-following/follower ratio seems to be the way to do this.

Any tips on how to correctly keep this down without getting banned?

I am unsure, I have days I do 500/500 F and U, and am fine. But my main account is a year and a half old, and when I first started I got a limit after following I think 516. Twitter said I was following too aggressively, and I got a 24 hour restriction, and did not follow for a week just in case.

If you are being cautious I think 5:2 or 5:3 is fine tho, just space it out.

Oh also, that was the only time I ever got a warning from twitter, I have been fine ever since. *knocks on wood* But they tend to take a multiple amount of factors into account, just like you have a 10% increase in people you can follow as you grow, it just depends.

Follow and Unfollow both are "actions". Too many actions can get your account suspended. So yeah I would not go for unfollowing 500. And btw unfollowing is pretty overrated anyways. I never do that.

Overrated? So are you just constantly padding your account with fake followers then. A huge aspect of this is definitely social proof. Majority of really popular high follower accounts seem to have xx-xxx/xxx,xxx.

I have actually noticed a 15% decrease in followbacks now that my ratio is 1:1 when prior it was 1:4.

Unfollowing is a BIG NO! It doesn't matter about how many your following, i unfollowed 80,000 in 1 hour and lost 60,000 followers over 3 days, your just loosing followers and your audience, and when you have low following ratio your followers sometimes look fake if you have no interactions, so i would always follow back, i do on all my 100,000+ accounts

I'm pretty sure he means unfollowing the people who aren't following him.. not just randomly unfollowing.

OP, in my experience... it really depends on the age of the account, how many followers you a have and the ratio of following/followers you have.

For instance, if you have 6 month old account with 60K followers and are only following 10K, 500 a day is a joke...

You can unfollow 100,000 in 1 hour if you want they is no rule at all on unfollowing, twitter even state that on there own website

I have an account that is 4 years old. My daily follow limit is still 1,000.

How are you able to follow 2k per day? Are you verified?

He probably has an aged account with 5 to 6 figure followers.

my main account just got suspend (follow limits ) i cant follow anymore people its been the case for 5 days now ,, i was only following 400 people a day :S

Feb to mid September I was following 1000 a day, and unfollowing whoever didn't follow me back within 2 days.. Sometimes I'd be lax with the unfollows and follow 1000, and then if i hadn't unfollowed for a week or so, i'd unfollow as many as 4,000.. I had no problem. Maybe once a month I'd get that "your account may be compromised" warning. Then in mid september, one night i followed maybe 500 people, and I got the account ma be compromised thing and to change my password, fine, i didn't follow anyone, and it happened again.. I ended up having to change my password 10 times in a 6 hour period. I held off follows, I went to try and mass follow a week later, and after about 100, got the warning. So now i've been afraid to mass follow.

My account is new and I follow 400/day atm.

I stopped getting locked out a while ago. I think its correlated to user engagement.

Twitter is modifying its locking rules! I wouldn't advice anyone to mass follow agressively. My maximum, for now, will be 250 follows/daily in 5K+ accounts!

If you're going to unfollow, make the rate at which you unfollow slower than the rate at which you followed.
