Safe mode is Turned on by Default for all users only those users who are using tumblr since a while knows what it is and have turned it off

So does this make it so Google can't see the link in the description?
Are they doing it to try and prevent people using tumblers for links?

it's good and the right thing to do for them. it makes your traffic more productive, too. It just affects people who are viewing content from the backend. Those arriving at the front end will still see your content without being logged in. Cheers.

This update is now rolled out and traffc is down for all blogs check this out for example
these are the before and after statistics for one of the most popular nsfw blog on tumblr : xxxsexxx, poor guy had to remove the counter off his blog to hide this traffic drop from new visitors

At this moment there are still a lot of adult tumblrs available to the public. It seems to be that flagging your adult tumblrs as explicit alone does not trigger their newest update. They are going down on individual tumblrs based on their own flags. I have 2 out of around 100 adult blogs showing this irritating screen for non-logged-in users:

This pretty much ruins the use of Tumblr for SEO as they will no longer rank in Google. Bye Bye.

I can still view pretty much all tumblrs. One thing i've noticed though is it's more difficult to find them through search. They're not censoring them what they're doing is just making it more difficult to find them the little jerk offs.

Yes, that's true. It seems new and more active blogs have the edge here.

They usually mark your tumblr as "adult" even if you don't. I guess it has to be reported and / or contain a keyword that sounds adult.
Despite the fact that all those who go to tumblr to see boobs turn the adult lock off, I'm getting really bad follow unfollow ration, like 10/2K.
