With the recent update Google made this week things may have been mixed up. I know that backlinks are an essential part of SEO yet if these tools are producing poor quality or questionable backlinks then its not going to help at all. Seeing as google updates constantly its rather pointless using the 'search' function to read a thread thats 2-3 years old.
Everyone else, thank you for your constructive feedback. I'm not expecting to use these tools and jump to 1st position in G.com, I currently have 2 sites both lurking around position 30-40 but i'd like to push them up to be in the top 8 and wondered how useful these tools would be to me.
Individually each link can be seen as positive. That is and should remain the default position
En masse, a campaign of links can/may have a detrimental affect on your site
Google has NO WAY of knowing whether a link is manual or automated. Whether it is made with good intent by an individual or by a tool spamming. This applies to every platform and every niche.
However, if you use a tool irresponsibly (which 99% of people do) you will create a footprint or likely over optimize for certain keyphrases or use certain platforms disproportionately.
That will be the users fault and not the fault of a tool
All tools that create links are still fine if used correctly and configured to conform with current best practice.
If you use the methods of 2011 you will likely fail - but that's not the tools fault.
A better question wqould be "What's the best way of using link making tools now"
The question you ask has been repeated many many times very recently - and I still advise using the search function.
As for Google changes last week - Google change every day. Tiny tweaks in the algo happen almost hourly somewhere and to someone. Last weeks changes were pretty insignificant for the vast majority. Major projects like the Panda and Penguin scans are done periodically to clear out specific issues (PR farms and over optimization respectively) there are many others with names going back 12 years. It never ends, but at some point you have to jump on the bus and go with current best practice. Google NEVER stops changing, if you wait until you are "certain" of something - you will never start.
"A bad workman always blames his tools"... in SEO never was a truer word spoken.
