I noticed JustHost will host Unlimited Domains, Unlimited BW/ and Storage for only 4.95! I also saw that they offer free domain? So if you register with them, they will provide you with one(1) domain free and then you can purchase any future domains? Do you have to purchase from them?

I think they currently have the best prices. I have an account with hostgator, but it is the hatchling plan and I can only host one website. Soon as I find all my keywords I am purchasing hosting from justhost.
 
No you don't have to buy new domains from them. Just update the DNS records to point to their servers (ie; NS1.PIPEDNS.COM/NS2.PIPEDNS.COM)

For $2 or $3 more, hostgator lets you do the same thing. You should just upgrade.
 
Had really bad experience with justhost - tech support is really bad.
 
Was trying to an a record set up and an mx record set up - submitted ticket at 11am and I was on live support at 1am still trying to push it through. Get up in the morning and they still had only done half the job. Got to 3pm and found they had typed in the wrong IP so I had to start all over. It was total nightmare

Not exactly what I'd like to be hearing. HostGator seems to be top of the line. Anybody have any experience with HostWinds?


I am looking to start with one Domain, and probably be registering more domains soon.

I can also get free hosting at 2freehosting, which I have used before. Obviously for free, you get zero customer support. But I have never had any issues with WP Blogs and SM Forums.
 
Everyone will tell you different stories about every host. There is no service that will be 100% satisfying but try to get more + than -

For Just host, I tried them around 2-3 years ago. That free domain you can never move elsewhere. They will also charge you yearly or so and next year the amount can be higher and your credit card will be charged automatically without prior notice. I had to ask for a refund because I moved after few months because the domain will be locked with them forever and it took so many back and forth emails to get the refund processed. Their point of view was that I had to cancel before renewal date but my point of view that I should get a notification about the renewal beforehand because even if I want to keep the package running, the credit card they have on file may have been canceled and I should get the chance to fix it.

What ended the situation I told them I can get the money from the bank anyways so there is no need to be stubborn about it.

This is just my experience but I'm sure you will find other good/bad experiences with every kind of service not just "Just host".

See this is exactly what I don't like to hear about a hosting service. If their rates go up, I can't move elsewhere with my domain that I have been paying for. That might just move me to the tried and true HostGator or HostWinds. Where do most of you register your domains? Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate the advice!

True. I swear by 1and1 and everyone else hates them! The main things I look for are:

1.stability- ie a well known host that has high uptime and won't go down for 5 hours with no explanation (1and1 for example has probably had maybe 3-4 hours downtime in the last 5-6 years for me).

2.functionality - the thing that I didn't like about justhost is that although you could amend mx records, you could create A records therefor I had no choice but to rely on them to do it - I think the more flexibility you have the better.
 
I used to use JustHost for all of my main sites. However, I recently stumbled upon bigger ammounts of traffic than usual, which resulted on them taking down my sites.

Needles to say that they're not my main hosting solution now, they're just the backup. Sometimes it's better to have 2 solutions instead of 1 :)
