Not only have I finally moved from the 2nd page for my main keyword (5,000+ exact monthly searches) I have now grabbed the number one spot. Took me less than a month with no off-page SEO other than some social bookmarking submits. The new Panda release a few days ago instantly shot me from page 8 to page 2 and 36 hours ago I moved to number 1 and am holding steady.

Although I currently bring in a five figure monthly income using other black hat methods, this was my first try at actually driving traffic to a site using SEO. I'd like to thank the BHW community because without you, I would still be slinging dough, smelling like pizza and working in a bar until 3am every damn night.

Congrats ! why not try to share some of your methods so that it shall help members here ?

I currently drive traffic to my main site (in the entertainment sector) through classified sites and a few other methods. The problem with trying to do seo for my main site is that I have hundreds (maybe even the low thousands) of different products that convert equally well with extremely high competition on all of them. Another problem is that although I do make hundreds of sales a month with an average payout of $33 commission on each sale, there are dozens of other, more well established sites that sell the exact same products for the exact same or at least comparable prices.

So I decided that the best course of action would be to build sites, each one targeting one of the products that I sell and not only use the sites to funnel traffic to my main site but to also ad affiliate links/banners for my competitors sites which I obtained through CJ because I would still average about $25 per sale through their affiliate programs and since they convert better than my main site, it would likely work out to even more money.

So this is exactly what I did.

Step 1- I used a keyword tool to find an exact match search query that received about 5,000 local monthly searches but had low competition and also had an EMD available. This took less than half an hour!

Step 2- Built a wordpress site using an advertisement ready template. I then wrote my own content in the form of one 300 word article, added the links to my site and a few affiliate banners and waited for the site to get indexed.

Step 3- After about four days my site was indexed. I then ran across a good deal on a social bookmarking service here on the board so I decided to give them a shot. (I unfortunately can't remember which service, I had them bookmarked on one of my machines that bit the dust a few days back)

Step 4- Left the site alone and let google do its thing. I wasn't going to do anymore offsite of onsite SEO until I stopped bouncing around but since I'm sitting at #1 right now, I'm probably not going to do anything at all until I lose that ranking.

So how much traffic are you getting now that your #1 for a 5k search term ?

it'll to see how long you last on that spot without much other seo. Unless you have extremely low competition then G maybe back around to re-assess.

15 so far today and 123 UV's yesterday with 6 conversions for a total of $130 take home. The great thing about the "business" that I'm in is that I can build hundreds of similar sites and expect similar results as long as I can get similar rankings.

How much does the service of the Social-Bookmarking cost you ? and how many times did you use it ?
Thanks

Congrats to you! Nice work.

One quick question...Do you sell a physical product or is it information based?

Thanks for the feedback. Hope you keep kicking ass!

I used it once, I believe it was maybe 200 SB's? I'll try my best to retrace my steps and try to remember which service I used.

It is an actual product and thanks!

So what do you mean by just some social submissions? What anything else did you do to rank?

Thank you

I think there is a significant event happening here. Have you noticed that a LOT of the spam the world types are being blown out of the water. All the spun articles and blog networks are taking a beating?

I believe the bottom is falling out of the ability to use backlinks to rank, and quality and social exposure is where we are going. I think quality backlinks will have value, but the bulk backlinks world is about to suffer a massive flush.

Your site flourished when sites with thousands of backlinks fell like stones.

I only do white hat and natural backlinking and my sites are nice and steady, a couple went up, one VERY significantly 3 days ago. (Like 8 pages of Google).

We might be in the middle of an earthquake here.

$200 or 200 Links using SB ? Thanks

200 Links or so

I mean I paid someone to build social bookmarks for me. I did nothing else to rank other than write good/unique content.

Few Questions?

1) What are the typical conversion rates for non-digital products (an expected average) ?

2) Do you sell products from Commission Junction, Amazon or any other site, if any other site, then ....?

3) Regarding your site which ranked at #1, how many pages/posts had you put up excluding the privacy policy, disclosure, contact us etc?

1. I have found the conversion rate to be much higher. The trick is finding a product that is in high demand but can't be purchased in Wal-Mart, Best Buy or another large retailer.

2. I do use CJ but my main site is monetized directly through the provider of the product.

3. Other than the policies/disclosure/contact page I only have three other pages with one article on each page. I also used a static home page format opposed to a blog setup. I wanted it to appear to be a website and not a blog

I believe that it's definitely turning to quality over quantity. I'm obviously no expert at all but everyone that I know that build quality sites had their rankings go up after the new Panda release where as it seems that most people with a million low quality sites had their rankings drop severely
