I basically just stumbled upon a pretty awesome keyword. Competition level of 9/100 and 6000 monthly searches not counting the long tail variations. What would be your strategy of ranking this bad boy?

I'm thinking

1) Foundation pages like facebook, twitter, G+.
2) Press releases
3) Social signals
4) Hit it with a PBN

Is it in the health niche?

Some aged web2.0 and PBN will do. After the keyword ranked, build more links to diversify your link profile such as guest post, contextual edu, press release, pdf sharing, etc.

health niche is pretty tough (if it is from it) but you won't need PBN for that. Try guest posts + some good content package. Should be enough.

It's not health niche thank god. I really just got lucky finding it.

What are the top 3 results like? Look easy to top?

#1 Result: Blog Post.... PA1 DA15 No backlinks. Less than 50 social shares. On page SEO is good.
#2 Result: Blog Post.... PA29 DA30+ Good amount of backlinks to the site. High social shares. Good on page SEO.
#3 Result: Forum Post... PA30 no onpage SEO obviously

Volume means nothing OP.
Question is how much do you expect to earn from that kw?

Why do you say that about volume? I can make some serious $$$ with this one if I rank in the top 3. There are a ton of great offers for the niche that I can utilize. This keyword is something people search for when they have a problem and I love keywords like that because it's an easy sale. I could probably do up to $100 a day if I ranked high for all the longtails plus the main kw.

Then you're good to go.
Last check I would do is to see if any of top 10 are affiliate sites or monetizing the keyword in some way.

:D How do you plan to monetize it?

Luckily there are a lot of CPA offers in this niche in addition to some good paying pay-per-calls. I think building a list in this niche would be a great idea too.

Is there a good methodology to ranking a new site? What types of links should I go for? If I could buy a link building package to make my life easier that would be preferable.

Very nice. Seems strange that the no.1 site does not really have any metrics or domain authority. Makes me wonder if they are hiding some PBN links or something??

Of course this is important - just because you have volume doesnt meccesarily mean you can bank, depends on user intent for that keyword, monetization options etc.

To be fair though, based on all the info it looks pretty good.

What sort of SEO strategy do you think I should implement here? Any recommendations as far as link building packages or software? I don't mind spending money if it'll help me get to the top. I can write the best 3000 word article on this keyword the internet has ever seen and if people click the SERP result the browse time will be high I'm sure. Getting it to the top is going to be my challenge.

Anyone trying to rank few keywords in google has yet a long way...........................so long.

Build contextual links but quality ones. Few web20 (multi pages) and few guest posts. If third position is a forum post then it shouldn't be that hard. You probably won't need tools for keyword like this.

Look at the information provided by existing top 3. You want something similar to that - doesnt neccesarily need to be a 3000 word article, its got to be relevent and what the searcher is looking for.

As for backlink strategy, well on the face of it you dont need much, just some contextual links, probably low volume and high quality, few relevent links with some nice metrics should do. Make your on-page perfect and you should be good to go.
