So I run an e-commerce site and part of that we have a page that offers discounts/offers to schools. We don't advertise this page or promote it we are no.1 in google for its long tail and exact search match which is all we need as if your an educator that's what you would search for.

As a result that one page gets 30-90 views per day and maybe from that, we get 2-4 emails. It's easy to manage and we do our bit for the education system - not to mention it helps with tax..

So this morning our inboxes exploded, we have had well over 1500 emails and counting it seems that someone had shared that page on a facebook group, which got shared to another and another ... 15 and counting it seems and at time of writing we have had well over 2000 page views this morning alone.

I've never experienced an explosion like this on facebook via organic shares - mainly as we do nothing with it or have had little success (we have a page but its mainly for news, giveaways, customer growth and support but) I guess it shows if you have something people want, and it gets shared in the right circles people will come.

Not a boast and not big by many peoples standards on here but for us an info page we put zero effort into we are shocked. Just thought id share!

nice job keep it up, and ho knows you might get and thousands per day :)

Ha! The admin work dealing with 1000s per day would be too much for us. Although enjoying the boom for today will be better once it's returned to "normal"

Whoa that's super cool OP! Just curious, was a post from your page shared or was the page itself shared? I've seen that Facebook specifically gives very less value to posts that are shared and also to posts that contain external links.

We don't promote the page/offer on facebook or any social media just let it get found organiclly as we find you get a few people contacting just to get some discount or something for free.

It was the company name, email and page shared by an admin of 1 group (that found the page by searching google), that got picked up by other groups that re-posted it on their own groups. Various groups have members from 800 to 100k+ some of the repostings where modified that contained our email as well as url etc.

Should note: It's also resulted in people then searching for us on facebook and sending us messages direct which although 'FUN' to see how people work and how a message spreads from an admin point of view its a nightmare at the moment.

Ha ha I totally get your point. We run an e-com store and easily get hundreds of people messaging to ask for discounts/promotions/freebies. Total nightmare.
But yeah, very interesting to see something go viral. Thing or two that we could pick up from it I suppose. Let me start making friends with Facebook group admins :D

I think it's only doing as well as it is because it's almost 'free' we give items/products to a school in return we ask for a few things functions almost like a trade but the value on what we get back is greater (or at least in our eyes) vs what we are sending out. No doubt schools see it as the opposite!

Not sure how to track the social value of all the page shares we have had, not sure if it does anything or not. We picked up a few orders as well as a result from it, just with people dropping messages in the basket saying they are happy to support us in return for supporting children, so not all bad.

That's great. It makes me thing a bit of what is happening to me. One of my businesses I run in my spare time is Print On Demand. I make tons of designs, most never make a sale and you hope to hit something from time to time. So one of my designs I made a year ago had no sales. Out of nowhere, someone bought 4-5 of them, which put me on the first page on Amazon. Then I suppose it got shared around because for the last 2 weeks, I've been selling 20+ a day, which has put me at the #1 spot on Amazon. Crazy how that happens.

I couldn't agree more. We have been trying hard to sell a lot of things to a lot of people who didn't want it in the first place. That is where the marketing crowd is these days. The actual necessity and the true demand and awareness for it has almost lost in the shuffle. It is great to see updates like these and still believe.

there seems to be so many lucky people around this forum lately. The other guy is on to YouTube and now you..

Great for you!
