It's already being implemented (last month) but just a quick reminder that tomorrow 5/21/15 google will be implementing it's red flag program (updated algorithm round 2) for sites that are not responsive or not mobile friendly and penalties should be worse (I'm assuming the penalties will be worse part).

Check your site:

It was implemented last month on 4/21... and theres plenty of discussion on this...

There is an update coming out tomorrow. This is not the same it's an algorithm change. It's so if you see rankings drop you know it's mobile. Where as last month they implemented the first run of their mobile flagging.

Are you able to provide a source?

There was a core algorithm update (Confirmed by Google). It was labelled as a "Quality Update". It wasn't major, but still an update as it redefined how Google assesses what "Quality Content" is.

it actually decreased desktop search rankings too

damn my site is very old design and i am suffering a lot from it

They said mobile responsiveness should only affect mobile searches, is there any possibility of it affecting desktop searches too?

Yeah, thanks for the remind, i installed WPtouch plugin on my WP site, so I think it should be OK though theme is not responsive.

I don't know the exact penalties they implemented yet, I made a few test sites and the ranks are rocky and I have not figured out what they did yet. I'll know soon tho.
