Just A Heads Up... GoDaddy Sucks!

I'm a big fan of namecheap, and have only used g*daddy once several years ago because of a promotion. Once I read their terms, I decided to stick with NC.

You've heard "the devil is in the details" and this is a prime example.

To the OP: just to clarify - are we talking about domains ot Godaddy's web hosting?

I have been moving all my doimains to namecheap from godaddy for a while. When the domain is about to expire, I move them for about the same price. Plus Namecheap gives whoisguard for free for a year.

Godaddy charges alot for whoisguard. You can get whoisguard for $.99 with coupon at namecheap.

Sheesh, that sucks. I never use godaddy. And after seeing this, I will never ever use godaddy. Thanks for the head up.

No. I am simply talking about domains registered through GoDaddy. Of which something like 50% of the dot coms on the internet today are.

I've always just stuck with NameCheap and HostGator.
Never had a single problem....ever.

Do you heavily spam comments/forums to any of your domains hosted at namecheap and/or hostgator?

That is the reason GoDaddy is holding some domains hostage. Because they created a blog comment or a forum post on an angry owner's website.

Agreed. It's all in GoDaddy's small print that makes them able to virtually "steal" your domain names.

Have you ever severely "blasted" any one of your domains you have registered with namecheap???

Anybody know if namecheap is "bullet proof" in terms of receiving spam blog commenting and forum spamming complaints? (I understand that most places will shut you down for email spamming ,which is highly illegal in most of the world).

I don't see how a registrar is allowed to play internet cop.

Yup this happened to me today too, 3 of my domains went down because godaddy suspended them for "spam" because of complaints. I dont see how they can do this when their not even hosted at godaddy. sucks because one of the domains was pulling in around 1k daily, i broke my mouse when i threw it...

I also bad experinces with the godaddy. So, I will never use any godaddy service. Hate them.

GoDaddy is a piece of shit

Domains, but they blow for both.

[NoDaddy.com]
An oldie but a goodie! I have no idea how they have not had their domain revoked. Or been sued for that matter!? But kudos to them!

Because they fall under the fair use doctrine in domain law. Im almost positive theyve been 'threatened'. But any trademark attorney will know that trying to recover that name would be a waste of time and money in this case, and this is why the domain is still up, as well as paypalsucks.com, etc... See below.

Ballys lost in
Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp. v. Faber, 29 F. Supp. 2d 1161, 1163-64 (C.D. Cal. 1998).
?An individual who wishes to engage in consumer commentary must have the full range of marks that the trademark owner has to identify the trademark owner as the object of the criticism. ? Id. At 1165 n.4.

On using trade mark in domain name applies as fair use, because they engage in consumer criticism. (Don't think a site like freeappleipods.com would fly under this, because it does not).

Bally, 29 F. Supp. 2d at 1165 n.2; see also, e.g., Lucent Technologies, Inc. v. Lucentsucks.com, 95 F. Supp. 2d 528 (E.D. Va. 2000)
Lockheed Martin Corp. v. Parisi, WIPO Case No. D2000-1015 (2001)

This is not a situation where a trademark was incorporated into a domain name in bad faith. Nor are they cyber squatters. Consumer criticism / parody etc... is perfectly legal and protected under 1st amendment of US laws.

But yes, GoDaddy blows. Had to deal with them several times. Including one incident when they locked my domains and tried to make me fax in documents because I sent in a support ticket.

If you run enough business through them, they are generally more lenient on things imo.

Besides their upsales, I enjoy my service with godaddy.

I've called them at 4am, drunk with a random complain and they fixed it by 4:30am. Gotta love that

oh sorry to hear that. we're planning to use godaddy as well.
I think, we still need to research and ask more reviews.

Just to sleep better, I transfered my main money making domain from Godaddy to Namecheap. It costs a little less than 9$ and they extend your domain for 1 year + you get free whois guard and SSL cert. It was all done in few hours.

Yes just look at the Template that godaddy use it sucks,i always used hostgator.

One of the big problems of Internet marketing is that your future is always in someone else's hands - your domain registrar, your hosting company, the search engines...GoDaddy is just another behemoth that has gotten too big for its boots.

Thanks for the heads up. I've already bought 3 sites from godaddy. I'm gonna refrain from gd now and use some other site. Hostgator seems like a legit company to me.
