Hello everyone,
Almost exactly 5 years ago me and a good friend of mine started a web-project in the gaming niche without any knowledge about web developing or marking. By pure luck, the project consistantly grew over time and today we are both able to live a comfortable life just by maintaining this project. (currently about $300/daily)
Even though i sometimes introduce myself as a web-dev, i don't really feel like i am one.
So i decided to start this thread, to get some more input on my current progress, ideas or projects but more importantly to try and get some consistent stream of motivation or guidance.
First off, some info:
- The projects i will share here are currently on the rock bottom and don't have anything to do this the main site.
- I'm currently 23 years old, study computer science at the university and consider myself decent in Python (scraping/automation), PHP (Basic backend, never used any kind of framwork), MySQL/PostgreSQL, html/js/css (Bootstrap, JQuery), Docker containerisation, Basic linux admin stuff (In that order)
- All sites i've build before are mainly relying on some kind of functionality or service and never on content.
- I like good domains very much. I'm that kind of people, who would buy a good domain before even starting working on the project.
What i want to achieve:
- Learn, how to quickly(!) transform ideas into decent looking/working websites which are also based on content and not only on functionality/service.
- Learn the true ways of whitehat SEO and marketing. Get into social media marketing, placing ads and all of that fun stuff.
- Use the domains i currently own, in a way, which increases their value without putting in too much maintanence work over time.
- Build up a portfolio of websites for potential contract work, if everything goes horribly wrong some day.
- Learn to know, when to work and when to relax or just maintain a stready schedule. You might call that a healthy work-live balance.
And now to the current project:
After another day of talking to my friend about the current Instagram boom i looked into the Instagram service market, as it exists at the current day. What i noticed was a huge amount of competition on the same stuff:
- Botting up stats, to (probably sell) the resulting accounts or promotions
- Raising the stats with F/UF and huge amounts of spam on the platform.
After a few thoughts and conversations with my friends it was pretty clear to me. The current way Instagram itself is pushing must be the way towards quality. Any kind of brute force is badly punisched. Increasing amounts of bans, always lowering bot limits and much more.
So there must be a demand for very high quality potential customers, which are algorithmically proven to be active, interested and real.
Based on that i started working on the new project. A heavily data-based algorythm service, which uses any data it can get, to detect the perfect customers for any instagram marketer.
"Very abstract and hard, just like everything i try" i thought, but this time i'm going to do it with a twist. Instead of attempting to build the whole thing from scratch, i will try to break it up into very small tasks, which can be sold/offered individually and at the same time be combined into the final product, while already building up some visibility in the search engine and possibly even a few natural backlinks.
What is already done:
- Bought a beatiful premium domain for the instagram tools niche
- Built Account Creation Date tool, which will later be one of the main stats for analysis of every account
- Website went online with Cloudflare SSL, Google Analytics, Google search console entry, functioning robots.txt/sitemap, some content i could quickly come up with in form of a Q&A and this single tool
- After a few days (after looking at the competitor sites) i added 2 easy tools (profile pic downloader and video post downloader) and the corresponding unique text Q&As

Thoughts so far:
- I'm very confused about the traffic. According to my db entries this people actually use the tool, so they must be real people. The domain name was "used" so maybe some trails were left on the internet even though i can not find any signs of them.
- Even though i tried very hard to get ranked for any keyword on google, i still didn't manage to do so according to semrush. I don't know, if this is normal. I will consider adding a blog portion to the website and hire some writers to fill it with relevant content.
- After looking at some of the competitors, most of them offer some kind of "like" or "follow" tool, which just gives out (most likely bought) likes and follows for a simple registration or even strait your instagram account data (lol!). I could consider adding something like that and get the money in though placing of ads.
What's planned next:
The next "tool" would be to write a full-fletched instagram scraper and using its data to start and calibrate the future algorithm and actually figure out the important stats. Sounds silly, but i still don't know, how exactly i'm going to determine the actual result. All i know, is, it will be heavily focused on actual likes and comments to posts instead of the followers, since most people (including instagram itself) are looking for the action of liking or seeing something and not that much for a high follower number on the top.
This would also allow to add all kinds of statistical tools, which i have never seen before and at the same time build up a good-sized instagram database, which also can be sold as-is or filtered to match any kind of data without actual analyzing.

I will try to update this thread as much as i can. This is most likely not the only shot i will get. But this might be the only one, i will need!
