45 years ago today Neil Armstrong took this picture. He later talked about it.

"It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small."

Makes you realise just how small we are really. Amazing pic though.
 
It actually landed on 21st. But that doesn't really matter as much. We just only made it ~240,000 miles away from our planet. A pretty insignificant distance when compared to the rest of the universe but It was a tremendous achievement for us. As someone said, whose name I can't recall at the moment, it was the first time we discovered Earth.

personally i dont think we ever got there. in 2014 we still cant even
explore our deepest oceans as our tech isnt good enough to go 10-20 miles
down, get crushed like a bug, so in 1969 we went to the moon in baking tin
u buy that, well people are suckers to governments

wow. to me it doesn't matter if they were really up there or not. Seeing things like this is always a great inspiration. It makes you realize how small the earth and we really are in comparison to the universe. It is one of my reasons why I don't fear death. The universe doesn't care if something happens to you it's all coincidence. You need to live each day as if it was your last.

You don't believe we made it to the moon in 1969, or ever?

Do you believe that no spacecraft has ever landed on the moon, or that man has never?
 
Back in 1969 Russians had as much space tech as Americans. In fact they got to the moon too several times, but were unable to land humans there before America.

What's that got to do with anything? Well if Americans hadn't been to the moon, the Soviets would have made a complete mockery of the West.

If the moon landing were a farse, the operation to keep it secret would have been probably as big and as difficult as actually landing there. I think they were there, they landed, there's a flag, and a plaque and a mirror too(someone told me once you can reflect off that mirror if you had a big enough laser).

What I would be more curious about is Buzz Aldrin saw a UFO on the way to the moon from his window at Apollo, he said the UFO was following Apollo. Was it a Soviet spaceship? Was it aliens? I think Armstrong saw UFOs too...what were they? The ridiculous theories are made up to cover up the REAL interesting facts...who was following Apollo 11 that night when Buzz Aldrin saw that spaceship out his window? Aldrin is not a liar, he's a straight talk guy....he saw a UFO, it was following Apollo. What was it?

Cellphones and satellite tv|radio. Weather maps. And these are the mundane ones that we use every single day.

Please don't take your life for granted. Look at what you have and figure out how it was conceived and produced.

Space may mean our survival in 100 to 200 years, maybe less.

But what I'm really interested in your reply is: would you be able to provide more info on that laser experiment? What would I have to buy to try and bounce a laser off the moon?
 
I was in Boy Scout camp at the time, and they pulled all of us into the lunch room and let us watch the landing.

I remember it clear as day, thinking that in billions of years never before had we humans ever set foot on anything but Earth.

It was an amazing event to witness, because when Kennedy said we would do it, everyone thought "What in hell is he smokin?"

I'm still in two minds about whether or not we actually went to the moon. Some of the evidence that we did not is pretty undeniable.
 
I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional every launch I've seen, thinking how the people watching must have felt, and what it meant for us all; thinking about the raw power, how delicate and supremely intelligent it all is, the ingenuity and daring. You see the potential and the elevation of humanity, and for a few moments you're holding your breath and hoping it all goes ok up there and down here.

I wasn't lucky enough to have been born then to see the pioneering of the rocket age first hand. I was born to craft exploding, the retirement of the Shuttle, the cancellation of the Ares program, the increase privatization and commercialization of space travel as a niche vacation idea instead of pioneering. The International Space Station is pretty cool though. But we need to get back to that old spirit. You can see it in how people behave, they are yearning for something to raise them up above the mess in this world. Edit: I forgot, we have the Mars rovers! Cool buddies.

For moon landing deniers, do you deny the first time or deny we have ever been there?
